So, as you can see below, my film watching was dialled back a bit over the last seven days…but much of that is thanks to a very busy schedule (including working on content for this little space of mine!).
However, I do sometimes wish that the blocks of time I logged in this little feature were slightly different. For instance, if the “week of watching” began on June 29th and ended on July 6th, then I could be sitting here talking about what an amazing week of watching it was.
See, in the span of that seven days, I got out to the cinema four times – catching up with BABY DRIVER, THE BEGUILED, THE BIG SICK, and SPIDER-MAN.
All of them sent me home so goddamned entertained. All of them gave me so very much of my money’s worth. All of them told such lovely stories. All of them will be in the forefront of my mind when I think about the great films from this summer. I even came this close to adding in a screening of OKJA, which would have extended the winning streak that little bit more!
There were laughs, there were thrills, there were things to think about, there were beautiful visuals, chills, and even a few tears.
Don’t get me wrong – it’s not like I’m sitting here saying that I just watched a cluster of perfect films all back-to-back: perish the thought. SPIDER-MAN, after all, is still merely a cheeseburger. It’s just that after so very weeks of offerings that were only mildly tempting (and weeks that weren’t tempting at all), it’s sorta nuts to suddenly find yourself at a table stacked high with tasty treats. The cupboard has been more than a little bare this summer, my dear friends.
So yes – a week where there were only six selections, and only a few selections in the week before that. But lordy, what a wonderful cluster of selections they were!
I’m hoping the great game continues. Nobody talk to the pitcher.
Here’s the week at hand…
Screenings
THE BIG SICK – Wow…
SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING – More on this in the days ahead, but I’m seriously impressed that SONY and MARVEL didn’t step on each-others toes during this little dance of theirs.
Streaming/Blu-Rays/DVD’s I’ve Never Seen
CLEOPATRA JONES – Gotta love it when TCM cult programs some blaxploitation.
OKJA – Anyone else feel a craving for ribs?
Streaming/Blu-Rays/DVD’s I’ve Seen Before
MARIE ANTOINETTE – There’s the tiniest part of me that wants to revisit SOMEWHERE, considering it’s now the only Coppola movie I don’t like.
CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR – Had to do me some HOMECOMING prep.
