Yesterday at The New York Film Festival, Ben Stiller unveiled his new film THE SECRET LIFE OF WALTER MITTY.
If you’re like me, you saw that first trailer two months ago and became curious. So many lush images, so much lust for life…could something that seemed so bright and shiny deliver a good story to go along with all of those pretty pictures?
Yesterday, the answers started trickling down, and the answer…depended on who you listened to. Some people were indeed caught up in the story of actually living our lives instead of watching them through the passenger window. Other people were more dismissive – “GARDEN STATE for middle-aged men” was a criticism I heard from more than one source.
What to make of this?
Well, for my money, it keeps the film in play, since I often see divided reaction every bit as validating as effusive reaction.
Here’s the second trailer for the film. What do we think folks? Life-affirming parable…or condescending trifle?
I’m very interested to see what your reaction to this film will be. I was quite taken with it myself.
I promise ya I’ll see it and write up a review.
