Ryan McNeilI know, I know, remakes are the work of the devil.
Thing is, in looking at this spot and where it will be coming on the calendar, I’m somewhat reminded of last year’s RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE APES. Remember? That other film that is based on an existing property that looked like it was just tacked on to the end of the summer? It wasn’t half bad – so perhaps there’s hope for this movie too!
Or perhaps not…
August is an odd time in theatres anyway – a month where the expectations are slightly re-calibrated. We’ll reconvene then and decide if this film is underrated genius, or misconceived flop. And yes; those will be the only two ratings I will accept for the film.

“OK we need a place that looks like somewhere people would go to escape. Obviously the original’s science lab is out of the question. I’m thinking stereotypical Asian theme! Man, do white people ever love to go to stereotypical Asia when they need to just get away!”
Yeah, this will be bad. Maybe not “my eyes are burning! my eyes are burning!” bad, but bad all the same. If not, I’m more than happy to eat my own words (I always give them a good coat of BBQ sauce before posting just in case)
