It’s a bit past midnight and I have just returned from a 10pm screening of TWILIGHT.
No – this isn’t my review, though I promise I’ll have that written and posted by Sunday night. Instead I just thought I’d share a few thoughts about the actual experience of the screening tonight.
As I’ve said before, I’m a geek. One of the things that comes with geekdom is attending opening day and even midnight screenings of some truly geek-tastic films (Jedis, Potters, Hobbits, Dark Knights, 007’s…you name it). During these screenings, the crowd tends to get a bit more…vocal. However, none of those screenings prepared me for a few hundred Twi-Hard Teens.
They chattered, they giggled, the squealed. Wanna feel like you’re in the wrong theatre? If you’re a guy, go to a screening of TWILIGHT (especially if you’re a guy over 25). What left me scratching my head though, is some of the moments that caused laughter. Maybe I’m not with it as much as I used to be, but I don’t remember Jack and Rose causing nearly the amount of nervous giggles as Edward and Bella.
Oh, and if you want to upset the Gossip Girl demographic in record time, cut the film’s soundtrack during the climactic fight sequence. That stopped the laughter in a big ‘ol hurry!
Really, it all serves me right for going to an opening night show. Somebody owes me an even-up.
Got home this morning from my midnight viewing of TWILIGHT last night.
Only one thing was exactly as I hoped. The first kiss scene. Ahhh. Fabulous and full of tension!
I’m going to go see it again, actually.
And I was giggling a lot too during the movie…mostly from internal jokes and getting subtleties.
I was disappointed about a few things that I felt was important, they skipped out on their great nightly drives and I was disappointed from “The Clearing” scene…and I would have liked to have seen a few other things differently.
