Thoughts on a Friday Afternoon
Several signs are telling me that this year’s Toronto Film festival is almost done…the fact that this morning no cast or crew turned up for the second screening of RESERVATION ROAD – hell the red carpet was even rolled up…the fact that the applause is thinning out for the “thanks volunteers” message…the increasing amount of same-day tickets available…the fact that some films that debuted at this festival were released in theatres today (EASTERN PROMISES, ACROSS THE UNIVERSE, THE BRAVE ONE)…the fact that audiences seem to be getting a but nutters – however I am amused by the calls of “Arrrggghhh” that greet the anti-piracy message…
It’s true, this festival usually ends with a whimper, not a bang, but with how tired everyone seems to be by the end of it all – that probably isn’t a bad thing.
Oh, and wouldn’t you know it – the only person I got a ticket for with my advance passes bailed out on me, and I can’t get someone else to come with me to save my life! Is it Sunday yet?
Looking Forward…
AMAZING JOURNEY: THE STORY OF THE WHO, 7:45 tonight at Varsity (anyone who reads this space and knows me, feel free to call my cell and claim that extra ticket if you want it). Tomorrow I have BEFORE THE DEVIL KNOWS YOU’RE DEAD and hopefully JOY DIVISION.
Hey, Isn’t That… Gabriel Garcia Bernal (the only celeb I saw away from a screening this year)
You Gotta Try This… Are you kidding? Yesterday’s meals consisted of a danish, a hot dog, and Kraft Dinner.
Do I Need a Coat?… There are some rather dark looking clouds gathering outside my place at Yonge & Bloor as I type, so an umbrella might not be a bad idea if you’re headed out tonight.
It’s supposed to drop down to 9 deg C / 48F overnight. Tomorrow will be a mix of sun and clouds with the temperature getting only to 15C / 59F.
