TIFF 2009 – Day 2 (Everybody’s Talkin’)

In the twelve hour span between 6pm last night and 6am this morning, a few flaws came up in my Free TIFF Experiment. Let’s start with TUFF.

According to the TUFF site, there was supposed to be a kiosk set up in Toronto’s subway where people could see the ten short films. Well I wandered all over the (admittedly sprawling) station and nary a kiosk was to be found. Sure had a lot of ads for “Glee” though. Part of me thinks TUFF was just a tad slow on the uptake, given that it was day one and all…but another quick glimpse during this morning’s commute went equally fruitless.

After the TUFF disappointment, came news of Neil Young. Neil was supposed to make an appearance at Dundas Square on Monday to say a few words before a free showing of THE NEIL YOUNG TRUNK SHOW, a new concert film by Jonathan Demme. I want to pause here and emphasize that this is not a concert, nor was it ever billed as one. Concert or not, it seems as though nobody got word of the appearance back to Neil, since an article in today’s Toronto Star says the appearance was news to him, and that he won’t even be in town.

As a dear friend of mine likes to say, “Glitch!”.

Today should go better, check in tomorrow for a post about the SUCK Showcase. Inkeeping with my usual Friday tradition, take a peek at a few bloggers whose TIFF experiences have gotten underway…

Start with The Movie Moxie, who gives a full recap of her day.

Move on to James at Toronto Screen Shots who has a reaction to THE MEN WHO STARE AT GOATS.

Finally, Kurt from Row Three has caught a screening of Heath Ledger’s posthumous work, THE IMAGINARIUM OF DR. PARNASSUS

Enjoy!

  1. Yikes, sounds like it was a bumpy day! On the TUFF note – it starts on September 11 so that's likely why nothing was around on Thursday.

Thanks so much for the link love! Festival has been fun so far 🙂
