Part of me wants to point at this trailer and matter-of-factly say “See!”…but when I watched it the second time, I realized he’s kinda playing a soldier.

Well he can play a Lawyer… *points to Philadelphia* and a criminal… *points to American Gangster and He Got Game* and a Boxer… *points to The Hurricane*… and a Civil Rights Leader… *points to Malcolm X*….
At one time Denzel Washington was my favorite actor, not anymore but I still have much respect for the man. Even though I know he makes the roles suit him far more than he suits the roles.
I'm surprised, I actually want to see that. Then again, I'll see anything with Gary Oldman in it, even if the Hughes Brothers' only good movie was Menace II Society.
@ Univarn… M'lady wanted me to tell you that while they're all different vocations, they're still all Denzel doing his Denzel thing. Essentially, she says, he can only play one guy…just sometimes we see that guy boxing, sometimes he's a lawyer, sometimes he's a criminal…but usually he's a cop or a soldier.
( FYI – That's her opinion. I dig him )

Well tell her I said 😛 (followed by any number of childish reactions you can come up with). I don't deny that he's that way, but if you trace back lots of the legends did the same thing more often than not (examples: Jimmy Stewart & Humphrey Bogart)
I agree with your theory and would like to add one more: A coach. But even as I say that, isn't a good coach just like a drill sgt. anyway? At least he does well as a solider and a cop.
