  1. Well certainly not 'The Gift' which is one of my least favourite films ever! Wouldn't mind Moon.

  2. I talked this recently on my last podcast but #1 on any Christmas list for me is a Kurosawa film. That always makes my Christmas. From this year I'd be looking for Moon or Brother's Bloom πŸ™‚

  3. Watchmen Directors Cut could be fun. Or the Blade Runner Final Cut bluray (of course then Santa would also need to leave a bluray PLAYER as well)

  4. @ Thistime… Dear God no. I'm still trying to get the taste of THE GIFT out of my mouth eight years later. Today's post is named after a Christmas song by Grath Brooks.

Mock me for that if you must.

@ Univarn… I was actually listening to your podcast on my morning commute today. When you mentioned the Kurosawa bit I said to myself "Well I guess that answers that."

@ Tom… There's a longer version of THE WATCHMEN??? Dear God, who has that kind of time?

  5. @Mad glad to know someone listened to it :P. There's actually 2 longer cuts of Watchmen: Director's Cut and Ultimate Cut. I got to see Director's Cut and it makes the movie infinitely better. The pacing's better, the transitions more fluid. I'll still have to check out the Ultimate cut πŸ™‚

As for Time I've spent weekends watching all 3 Lord of the Rings Extended Cuts which total well over 13 hours so yeah πŸ™‚

  6. I did comment when it first came out, the only real problem with Watchmen is that it is too short. They just try and squeeze too much into the running time. I will look out for one of the longer cuts.

As for the original question, it has to be Let The Right One In.

  7. I've asked my parents for Terminator 1 and 2 (I don't own them for some reason!) and the television series The Adventures of Brisco County, Jr. Thirst would be rad, too.

    What about you?

PS Guys, I'm pretty sure Moon doesn't come out until January.

  8. @ Univarn… There are support groups for people like you. the podcast was good! Keep 'em coming and prepare thyself for being my guest for podcast #3 after Christmas.

@ Fandango… I too want RIGHT ONE, but that will be a post-Christmas purchase for myself since I want to be sure to get the version with the corrected subtitles.

As for WATCHMEN, I always thought it'd work better as a miniseries.

@ Alex… that sound you hear is Thistime & Univarn's collective hearts breaking. T1 & T2 sound like great ideas…I might have to finally cave and pick myself up T3.

As for me…Tops on my list has to be STAR TREK, INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS, and PUBLIC ENEMIES. Hopefully Missus Hatter is reading this…which let's face it, is a crapshoot πŸ™‚

  9. Nah Moon is definitely out here (England) now. Not sure about US though (A HA! The shoe is on the other foot!)

T3 bares up to watching again I think. There's a lot of fun things in that film. Surely available for a relatively small amount of $?

  10. I've told present buyers that I'm trying to extend my Woody Allen and Pedro Almodovar collections (which are both very small) but I also want Fringe Season 1 cos I missed the first few episodes

  11. I don’t think we have the subtitle issue over here. As far as I’m aware there is only one version. I assume from your comment the American version is doing the rounds over there.

  12. Definitely Tarantino's Basterds (2 disc)
    There Will Blood (2 disc)
Mad Men – Season 1 and 2 (figure I should see what all the fuss is about.

  13. I gotta post questions more ofetn…it's like comment central here today…

@ Thistime… No fair! Canada's still a loyal subject, why should we suffer?

@ Big Mike… Sorry we're all sold out of Basterds in the Blu. I still have a few taupe ones, one slate one, and the ivory one on the table by the door.

@ Aiden… Ooh! A pop culture classic. Way to reach back a bit!!

@ Filmgeek… Good ideas both. Of course what I'd like more than a dvd is to earn a spot on your Sunday links list some week πŸ˜‰

@ fandango… Read what I wrote to thistime, rinse, and repeat.

@ CS… Good choices all, especially Mad Men. I don't talk too much TV on this blog but I watch a crapload. The amount of TV Show dvd's I'm looking for is obscene. For what it's worth, LOST season five is tops on my TV dvd list.

  14. I really hope to see Star Trek & Harry Potter 6 πŸ™‚ Moon would be awesome too but it doesn't release here til Jan.

  15. a great gift would be a Region 2 DVD of Something Wicked This Way Comes – unfortunately it doesnt exist.
and the TJ Hooker box set

  16. If I wake up Christmas morning and there's no copy of the new Harry Potter sitting under my tree I might cry. No, scratch that… I WILL cry. I'm talking to YOU Mr. Hatter! Don't screw it up!

    Love,
    Mrs. Hatter.

  17. @ filmgeek… I'm bad that way. It's why I don't talk Christmas gift ideas with Missus Hatter anymore.

@ Shannon… Pity about Moon, though I hope the other two find their way under the Moxie Tree!

@ Ross… But isn't Christmas the time of miracles? That's what hans Gruber said…

@ Mrs Hatter… Gee, no pressure. make sure whoever looks to get me BASTERDS picks up the two-disc edition. If I get the movie-only version, I'll be the one crying.

  18. Late to the tea party… as usual.
Only two on my list: STAR TREK and THE WIND THAT SHAKES THE BARLEY.

As for The Watchmen… Hatter, you didn't know of the extended edition? I didn't get the opportunity to see it in the theaters, so I haven't got a basis for comparison, but it covers the comic thoroughly. And doing a miniseries is just a little too BBC for American broadcast standards.

  19. @ Fletch… Watching violent war flicks is what Christmas is all about, isn't it?

@ Cheshire… BARLEY is a pretty interesting pick. Here's hoping Santa brings it for ya.

I don't think a mini-series is a completely absurd suggestion. Look at what HBO has done with stuff like Band of Brothers. It coulda been great!

  20. Heh, since I can't remember the last time I could afford to buy a DVD, nor do I have a tree this year, I have quite a list! lol

Probably Race to Witch Mountain…or even the original…just to remind me that there's magic this time of year.

Or something like Paranormal Activity or The Orphanage, to scare the pants off me in a good way! πŸ˜‰

Anything from the stuff I love genre…seasons of Dollhouse, Castle, True Blood, BSG or Lost, for example. Star Trek would be awesome. Even Dr. Horrible, but…scratch that…I don't think I'm ready for that.

I guess there's a lot of things I kinda want, but nothing that I *really* want. There's nothing that if I don't get, I'll cry, that's for sure! lol

  21. @ Boozie… there's nothin' like a hatted one buying ya a ticket to AVATAR to chase those dvd-missin' holiday blues away πŸ™‚

  22. LOL

You are SO RIGHT! Hatted peeps are handsome AND giving! πŸ™‚

And, truth be told, I still prefer seeing a film in the theatre to watching it on TV or my computer. I'm too easily distracted in my apartment (oh look, my cat just stretched and yawned…must pet!) … what was I saying? Oh yeah…I was going to reneg on my DVD dreams and say a theatre trip would be my real wish. Luckily I have the best friend in the world who can help make that happen…whilst I can provide only my charm and wit, wrapped up in a winning personality. Or…something… πŸ˜‰

  23. Farscape the Complete Series. I bought it for one my family members to give to me, so if it's not there someone will pay!

  24. @ Dan… I'm hoping for that one too, but I don't think that one will be under the Hatter Family Tree. Boxing Day shopping, here I come!

@ Answer… OK, I feel sheltered – I haven't even heard of that series. Am I missing out?
