I must admit, I’m curious about this one.
I’m a fan of the original…and given that I went to a high school for the arts, this sort of story taps a nerve. I like the fact that they’ve cast a crop of nobodies as the students, hopefully that will help prevent it from being seen as HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL 4.
You went to an arts high school? In Toronto? Now I'm curious to which one.
It's perfect timing for them to bring Fame back, but I wonder if it will be as gritty and real as the original film which is the total flip side to HSM.
Did you get out to Every Little Step?
I did…and yes, in Toronto. Its name starts with the letter "E".
The timing will be interesting. Its success/failure might well trickle over to TV's "Glee" (If one does well, stands to reason that the other should too).
The grittiness will be something I'll be looking for…one has to wonder whether the filmmakers are looking to remake Alan Parker's original film, or the far more cheesy TV spin-off that came from it?
I saw ELS at the film fest last year (and incidentlly, ran in to you afterwards!). Quite liked it, and am thinking about posting something about it now that it's got a theatrical run.
Ah, E – gotcha. Doh, there are 2. Hmm. I'll bug you about that sometime 🙂
Although the grittiness in the original Fame film was sometimes uncomfortable (especially with Coco) there was something about it that made it real, but it was also very of the time so they would need new scenarios. I loved the show as well, but for different reasons. Hmm, good point they might be going for Film-then-series, but hey if they were really going to go gritty they would have pulled a True Blood and hit up HBO for a series to start with. Now there is an idea.
Ah, of course you saw Every Little Step, I remember now. I saw it 2x on the theatrical run – brought my sis 1 time and a friend another. Always makes me cry, its so freaking good.
