This is always an odd time of year for me.
One of the very best things about TIFF, is that it allows me to see a film relatively blind. I might know it by director, cast, or reputation, but by and large much of what I see are films that I’m coming into with little-to-no expectation. This is great since it’s the only time of year I can let the film “just play”.
What this entails for me is ducking a few trailers. In years past, I’ve looked the other way during trailers for BLACK SWAN, 127 HOURS, and THE ARTIST so as to preserve my festival experience…and here we go again.
SEVEN PSYCHOPATHS is high on my hit-list for TIFF 2012. The film is the directorial follow-up to IN BRUGES, and as if that wasn’t allure enough, I know a handful of people who have seen a preview screening of it and won’t shut up about how good it is.
So today’s post is definitely more for you folks than for me. Take a look at the clip below and mark your calendars. I’ll be over here, covering my ears and humming.
I don’t think that the trailer gives away a lot actually. I’m so friggin excited for it! Rockwell and Walken look hilarious already.
On a sidenote, Black Swan is one of my most favourite trailers ever. How did you ever ignore it?
I’ve been told that this trailer doesn’t really tip its hand all that much. Still, if I’ve come this far and am still unawares, I prefer to stay that way.
“How did I ignore BLACK SWAN?”
It was actually pretty easy since the trailer didn’t drop until about two weeks before TIFF 2010. I only came across it in theatres once before the festival began, and that afternoon it was pretty easy to pop my headphones back on and put my head down.
I watched it after the fact, and you’re right – that trailer is stellar!
Also, I remember that at TIFF 2010, BLACK SWAN was one of the very hottest tickets.
I love In Bruges. I really, truly do. In fact every year I go through a phase where I talk myself in and out of whether or not I think In Bruges is the best film of the year. That said, I think little enough need be said about my anticipation for this film.
One caveat though – the kidnapping dog theme brings back rather unfortunate teenage memories of Sophie Marceau and David Spade in Lost and Found… suffice to say that’s not an association any film wants to come within 500 miles of having.
Univarn speaks! Univarn speaks!
From what i understand, this trailer actually doesn’t give away all that much. So comparing it to a film that relies on a plot about kidnapping a dog might be premature. Just remind yoursefl how much you loved IN BRUGES and go see this.
If you need more convincing, check in on the site during TIFF as I’m sure I’ll be seeing it there.
All I remember liking of In Bruges was the characters, prob should give it another shot. But woah what a trailer and what a cast, lol at ‘The Hot Girlfriend, played by a Bond girl of course” and “I like it, it’s got layers”
Do give IN BRUGES another shot – the humour in it is that great wry Irish wit. Colin Farrell has never been better!
