With Summer finally having arrived in Toronto after an unusually chilly May and June, I was happy to find out that one of my favorite summertime activities has returned after taking a year off. If you found that the free screenings at Dundas Square weren’t quite your style, perhaps the FIDO Free Flicks at Harbourfront might be more to your liking.
While I do enjoy watching movies at both spots, I would have to say I prefer Harbourfront since the backdrop of Lake Ontario behind the audience makes for a better environment to enjoy a movie. Dundas Square is fun and all – but the noise of passing traffic can get a tad distracting.
I don’t really think there’s a theme to the program, and here are the titles they’ve chosen…
- JUNO – July 8th, 8pm
- RUSHMORE – July 15th, 9pm
- DICK – July 22nd, 9pm
- THE VIRGIN SUICIDES – July 29th, 9pm
- RUN LOLA RUN – August 5th, 9pm
- “Audience Choice” – August 12th, 9pm
For the Audience Choice night, at the moment it’s a toss-up between TOUCH OF PINK, MONSOON WEDDING, THE WILD ONE, and THE MOTORCYCLE DIARIES. Voting is open from now until August 5th, with the highest vote-getter being screened on the 12th. Currently MONSOON WEDDING is leading the way.
So if you’re looking for a free show in the city, or want to see one of your favorites on the big screen one more time, check out this fun series at one of the best spots to catch a flick in Toronto. Full details can be found here.
Oh man – what an odd mix of movies. Although I’d LOVE to see The Wild One up on a screen like that. Too bad I’m so far away.
I voted for THE MOTORCYCLE DIARIES myself, but THE WILD ONE would have to be a close second for me.
yeah, I suppose driving a few hundred miles and crossing a border just to catch a flick *is* a bit excessive…
…only “a bit” mind you.
