Believe it or not, I usually don’t even watch trailers unless I happen to be sitting in the theatre when they play before a film (yes, even though I post one trailer every week). Once in a while though, a trailer catches my attention and does an amazing job of selling its product.
One example that jumps to mind is the stellar job Fincher & Co. did selling THE SOCIAL NETWORK with those clips featuring Radiohead and Kanye West.
It’s hard to explain why, but now and then the marketing team is able to strike just the right note, and actually tap into that part of us that usually only gets excited by seeing superheroes fly by or rock stars strike their curious poses.
THE PROGRAM is handily one of those clips that elevates interest in its product…taking it beyond “That Lance Movie” to a potential document of modern history that we will point to in order to underline their arguments.
Oh, and did I mention that it’s playing at TIFF next month?
