Last week I wondered aloud if THE GOLDEN COMPASS was about to become the next Narnia or the next Eragon. Guess we got our answer ( Edit – That “answer” is only as it pertains to box office and critical response, I myself haven’t seen it yet). While I enjoy that Hollywood is making plenty of fantasy movies these days, I can’t help but wonder if every producer has visions of Potters, Hobbits, Lions, Witches, and Wardrobes dancing through their heads as they green-light these films. Oh well.
The Chronic-(what?!)-cles of Narnia are set to continue next spring. Here’s a look at the next movie, made from book four in the series, PRINCE CASBIAN…

I take it you didn’t like it?
It was flawed for sure, but I enjoyed it. It’s great to see an adventure story with a girl as the protagonist. The book is far better though (so far… I’m 2/3 of the way through).
I probably should have clarified. What I MEANT to say, is that if box office return tells us anything, it’s that audiences weren’t quite as eagre to lap up the Compass-y goodness as they were the big steaming bowl of wonderful that was Narnia.
I haven’t seen it yet, but do intend to, and a lacklustre opening weekend isn’t going to dissuade me. I’m curious about the book too…perhaps when I finish with The Chronicles of Narnia, I’ll move on to that trilogy.
