When the summer gets a little long in the tooth, offerings at the multiplex tend to get a little hit-or-miss. August has always been a dumping ground, and this summer doesn’t seem to be any exception.
If you have any sliver of excitement for BOURNE or TOTAL RECALL, then August will offer you something small. If you don’t have any interest in either one, then when you walk out of THE DARK KNIGHT RISES, you might as well do your back-to-school shopping because your summer will be over.
A film that seems to have “August” written all over it is PREMIUM RUSH, which on the one hand looks like it’ll be pretty dumb, but on the other hand looks like it might be fun. The film does star Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Michael Shannon, and both of them get my money just for showing up these days…so perhaps there’s hope…
I can’t wait for Premium Rush just because Joseph Gordon-Levitt is in it. I’m basically blind when it comes to films including him – they look good to me because he’s in it.
If I take that him out of the equation, I’m quite a bit less excited about this film. Other than that it looks like a lot of other movies, only mostly taking place on a bike this time.
“If you don’t have any interest in either one, then when you walk out of THE DARK KNIGHT RISES, you might as well do your back-to-school shopping because your summer will be over.” – really funny line. Luckily I’m excited about both Bourne Legacy and Total Recall.
Funny thing – this town is so damned loaded with movie-going options, that even if I wasn’t interested in BOURNE or RECALL (though I’m stoked for both), I’d still find material to carry me right through until Autumn.
And I’m with you – JGL is an actor who gets my money for any film he makes (and he’s making FOUR this year!) because he’s been on such a great run. Here’s hoping that this title continues the streak.
PS – Happy to see you commenting again
I feel the same way! I’m kind of loving all that film has to offer this summer/fall.
Thanks, man. Happy to be back, yo!
