Power to the People

Observations On a Sunday Morning
If you were out and around some of yesterday’s Film Festival screenings, you may have noticed a collection of protesters. I’m not sure exactly who the group was, but they were clearly against films that glamorize smoking. Fair issue, but what started bugging me was how they chose to protest. They had their signs, banners, and leaflets, and were standing around the sidewalks of John & Richmond near The Scotiabank Theatre…the very busy sidewalks near the Scotiabank Theatre.

In the spirit of BATTLE IN SEATTLE I almost wanted to just forget about this one, but to me as a person who is trying to get from A to B around some very crowded streets, it’s rather annoying to have to manoeuvre around ticket holder lines, rush lines, volunteers, normal people walking the streets, and now protesters too! One of them tried to hand me a leaflet asking that I protest smoking in films. I wanted to hand him one back asking that he protest against protesters.

Looking Forward…
Three shows on tap today including LUST CAUTION, RELIGULOUS (Conversation w. Bill Maher), and HERE IS WHAT IS. At least I have a bit of sleep in my system today!

Hey, Isn’t That… Saturday was loaded with sightings including Anton Corbijn, Stuart Townsend, Charlize Theron, Andre 3000, Woody Harrelson, Jason Bateman, Michael Cera, Jennifer Garner, Allison Janney, and Ben Affleck.

You Gotta Try This… Strangely, I’d never eaten at Cafe Crepe before this week. It’s at 246 Queen West, just around the corner from The Scotiabank. Everything on the menu is pretty decently priced, very fresh, and rather tasty. Give it a go!

Do I Need a Coat?… Probably – and an umbrella too. Chance of showers all day today and a high of only 20C/68F. Thankfully this should bring an end to the humidity. Tonight the temperature will drop to 14/57.
