While I am consumed and amused by films nominated for Oscars, I realize that many movie-goers out there may not feel the same way. I mean really – how many of you reading this have even seen THE DIVING BELL & THE BUTTERFLY?
I’m sure many people who watch movies barely even notice the sound effects editing, let alone care about which movie will take home an Oscar for it’s amazing achievement. For those of you who don’t know Live Action Shorts from Achievement in Visual Effects, I give you The MTV Movie Awards.
Yes, every summer those wacky cats at the channel so nice they named an entire generation after it, hand out their own movie awards. And you won’t find categories like foreign feature, adapted screenplay, or costume design here. Nay, they are more concerned with categories like “Best Kiss”, “Best Fight”, and my personal favorite “Best Movie of The Summer So Far”.
Just in case you still aren’t sure whether this awards show is for you, consider this: SUPERBAD earned the most nominations. For the full list of nominees, click here.
I’ve seen the Diving Bell and the Butterfly – it was one of the best films from last year. That being said I wouldn’t imagine it’d be up for any of these awards, which has some awesome categories 🙂
Oh I’ve seen it too (I’ll even get around to reviewing it one of these days) – and agree with you that it was such an amazing film.
Unfortunately people like you and I are in the minority when it comes to seeing such well thought out, not highly marketed foreign films.
Why that didn;t qualify for Best Foreign Feature is beyond me.
Heh…and yeah, I’d be rendered dumbfounded if a movie like it EVER got nominated for an MTV Movie Award.
I believe it wasn’t submitted as best foriegn for the Oscars, countries can submit 1 film per year and I think France choose Persepolis.
It’s true, I always like to see foreign and independant films. There are so many opportunities to do so in Toronto!
