As the world’s financial machine seemed to come to a grinding halt autumn before last, I found myself thinking back to Oliver Stone’s WALL STREET. I gravitated towards Gordon Gekko’s admission that at the end of the day, he creates nothing…and his bold declaration that “Greed is Good”.
I wondered if we were finally feeling the ultimate fallout from such arrogance that drives our white collar economy, and further wondered what someone like Gordon Gekko would make of our financial situation today.
Well folks…in a few short weeks, I’ll get my answer…
I just felt like the trailer was specifically made for jerks like those in the movie Boiler Room, rich punks making their living off the hard earned money of decent people. But, Michael Douglas looks like he's back!
I'll see it if someone can assure me that Shia dies at the end…or at the beginning. Preferably at the beginning…by a dragon.
This looks really good. I just saw the original not that long ago for the first time, boy it still packs a punch even a decade after it's done. I'm curious about this one and yes, Douglas …er Gekko is back for sure. I don't mind Shia in this either, oh and I heard he & Carey Mulligan got together whilst shooting for this movie.
@ Big Mike… BOILER ROOM!!?? Way to party like its 1999. I was starting to think I'd imagined that movie for how little I ever hear it mentioned.
@ Aiden… Perhaps he gets burried under all that paper you tend to see on the floor of the NY Stock Exchange.
@ RTM… I'd hoped that Mulligan had higher standards than that. I'll be going back and re-watching the original before seeing this flick, so stay tuned for inevitable blog post.
I actually dug Boiler Room. I must have watched it one hundred times in college.
I have to say I didn't expect much but this trailer sold me. Douglas looks great and Shia looks……….like he always does….
Having the stones rock Sympathy For The Devil in the back round couldn't be more clever and badass.
I borrowed the Wall Street DVD from the library. I'm going to watch it some time this weekend.
As for this trailer…um, wow. It looks kinda ridiculous? And "Money Never Sleeps" just sounds kinda dumb?
I generally like Oliver Stone, so I'll see…
I think I have already said on another blog (possibly RossvRoss) that “Money Never Sleeps” is a really dumb title, it sounds like one of the really bad Bond titles.
I liked Boiler room, it was that tiny moment in history when Vin Diesel made his three (four if you include the voice of The Iron Giant) decent films.
I love the handing over of the mobile phone, just shows how smaller technology gets, haha.
Damn, look at all the BOILER ROOM love!
@ Heather… While "Sympathy" is grossly overused (as is "Gimme Shelter"), The Stones instantly make any trailer better!
@ Marcy… Double back to it after watching the original. Though I do agree with you on the subtitle – it's pretty bad.
@ Number Six… What are the other three decent Vin movies?
@ Caz… That still kills me…though the whole scene is very BLUES BROTHERS.
