Midnight Radio: The Matineecast Episode 14

So this one runs a little long, but I beg patience. See, this is my birthday episode – and the thing I like to do most on my birthday is spend time with my friends. In the blogosphere, that’s a bit tougher, so what I decided to do instead was spend time talking about my friends. And when it comes to talking about people I care about…I can get carried away.

(By the way – if the embedded audio doesn’t work, can someone like tell me this time?)

So fun times and lots of it coming up. Here’s the Pete Rose episode…

Here’s what’s in store in episode fourteen…

Runtime
73 minutes, 16 seconds

Up for Discussion

1. My brief introduction
2. KNOW YOUR ENEMY – Q & A with this episode’s guest, Alex Kittle from Film Forager (1:40)
3. THANK U – A short mention of The Lammy goings-on (7:25)
4. COME TALK TO ME – Listener feedback on movies from years they were born. (12:15)
4. WHAT’S GOIN’ ON – Japan doesn’t like THE COVE, and del Toro leaves THE HOBBIT. (16:00)
5. THE NEW SLANG – Review and reaction of GET HIM TO THE GREEK (22:40)
6. BEST OF YOU – Alex & Hatter talk about ten great movie bloggers (39:17)

Comments and feedback are welcome, and thank-you very much for listening.

Enjoy!

  1. Hey I'm not seeing the embedded file. It just has a big blank space and then says "get widget". The itunes one works though.

  2. Listening through your mypodcast site if you need an alternate source Alex.

Just have to say, I love how your podcast has developed over the last few months Mad. Just getting more and more professional each time.

    Now, as for the conversations:

I'm with you on the LAMMY's, getting any nominations is more important than any win. I could care less about winning (which I know everyone says, but is oh so true). But you earned those nominations, big time! 🙂

You know my recommendation for the podcast :).

Would love to help you out on the licking in Get Him to the Greek, but I don't have a drug problem. Then again I'm not off drugs long enough to think about it (as many of my readers might argue).:P

Thanks for the mention ;). Now, I feel I must enact a new plan. Instead of commenting on all of your posts, I'm debating only commenting on some of them. Randomly, without warning. Ninja style! Or I can just keep on going along.

Big fan of lots of the other blogs you mentioned as well. Also, nice variety! There's so many different movie blogs, and types of movies blogs, I wish I had enough time in the day to read every one of them.

  3. Great podcast! This was my first time hearing your Podcast, but it was very enjoyable, and it was great hearing about all these other great blogs, Im defenetly going to be looking them up.

I just started blogging last year, but its great reading and hearing about the film blog community! Keep up the great work with the podcast, its not just Univarn hearing now!

About Guillermo del Toro not directing The HObbit, Im reading the novel now, I was reading it so Id be ready for the films release, but I agree with what you guys said, its not that great of a story, though it is enjoyable, its not nearly as epic, and Im only half way throgh it.

But I am happy about one thing: Maybe now Del Toro will get down to directing In The Mountains of Madness, the lovecraft film that he has always wanted to make.

  4. Great podcast Hatter. Sounds like Lady Hatter found a lovely new mic for you and Alex was a great guest.

However, I don't think either of you intended on it, but you both talked me out of seeing GHTTG in the theater. Another lame comedy sounds like.

  5. Sweet podcast Mad and Alex! I agree with Ryan that your podcast is really getting to a professional level at this point. Keep up the good work!

  6. Ah, yes, that "wedding" I had to attend … now the truth comes out! You think me a liar!

I'm sad to report that I really did have to go to a wedding fur, fur away laster Saturday, but I went to see "Get Him to the Greek" on Sunday because I LOVE Russell Brand and Jonah Hill. But I'm glad Alex stepped in and of course I couldn't be happier I'm on her blog radar.

    Looking forward to episode 16…

  7. ROOKIE OF THE YEAR?!

    I AM BEAMING!

You guys are awesome. And, yes, I need to go to pub night…

  8. @ Alex… Weird – it looks like it's working here.

@ Univarn… You mean you're NOT a druggie? You're like that naturally??? You're most welcome for the mention. Alex called dibs, otherwise you would have been one of my fiove for certain. And I meant every word – keep the good stuff coming!

@ TFC… Welcome! THE HOBBIT just feels like a cash grab these days. I'm sure it would be (might still be) amazing, but I'd much rather Jackson and Del Toro movie on to their next projects, like that one you just mentioned.

    Here's hoping.

@ Heather… If I saved you from seeing GET HIM TO THE GREEK, then mission accomplished! Something tells me SPLICE would be a better choice. And I'll tell Lady Hatter that you say she picked out a good mic.

@ Castor… I consider that high praise coming from you sir. Thanks for the note, I'll do my best to keep the hits a -comin'.

@ Meredith… Busted!! Now the question is, what will I force you to see to atone for that when you return in episode 16???

@ Sasha… You deserve it. If you don't make it to the next Pub Night, I'll definitely catch up with you at a Dundas Square movie. You can't hide forever!!

  9. I have to say I would have tried to duck out of this one, first you make the guest watch a Russell Brand movie (I didn’t realise people knew who the idiot was outside the UK, good let the rest of the world suffer him too) then you make them talk about other bloggers knowing all the listeners they don’t mention will feel like Peter O’Toole at the Oscars. Wedding or not you did the right thing M!

All joking aside that does give me an idea of something you could add to your pod cast, if not every episode at least when relevant: Best new blog. As you mention you find other bloggers via the comments they make on blogs you read, every time you come across a good one mention it on your pod cast (but no more than one an episode or it could turn into “what hatter read this week”). The other idea is for your Know your enemy questions: “is there a film you wish didn’t exist” for example if there was no Forest Gump a decent movie would have won best picture that year. Or The Matrix is better without the direction the sequels took.

  10. Great show yet again. The top 5 encouraged to me discover even more unique blogs! My god there are a lot of us out here on the internets.

  11. @ Fandango… What can I say, Alex is a trooper.

I like your new blog suggestion idea. Might make for a good way of mixing things up and keeping our little community growing. Well done number six!

@ Edgar… There sure are a lot of us out there, and if I encouraged you to go looking for more then I am quite proud of myself. I think part of what made me become a better blogger was surrounding myself with more and more voices to listen to, and likewise to inspire reactions.
