As we all know, Sundance darlings are something of a mixed bag.
For every WHIPLASH, there’s a RUNAWAYS.
The mixed bag gets even deeper when it comes to comedies (or likewise, “dramadies”), since what seems charming in the scope of Festival Goggles can often drop into mainstream theatres and not find their voice when surrounded with so many cinematic cheeseburgers.
So what to make of the Grand Jury and Audience award winner ME AND EARL AND THE DYING GIRL? To my optimistic eyes, this seems like it could bring a certain bittersweet beauty. At the same time, it’s DNA is very visible…so many films that have come before can be seen in this trailer.
Let’s hope for the best, shall we?
I will love it.
No pressure.
I’m a bit excited for this one.
I keep forgetting this is based on a book. Lemme guess: You read it, and dug it, right?
It does seem like this story has been done before. Even more so that its based on a book. I immediately thought of Be Kind Rewind when they mention they make movies. I’m not sure I’ll make it to this one.
