As you may or may not know, I take some ribbing for how long it takes me to get a guest back on the show for a second go-round. Funny thing though – over the course of this little audio experiment I’m conducting, I noticed something.
In leaving a longer gap than usual between appearances, a chemistry builds between myself and my guests (who usually tend to also keep up with the overall discussion here at the site). So sure, I could bring people right back just a few weeks or months after they make their first appearance, but something tells me that familiarity that’s palpable in their second shows wouldn’t be what you hear in episodes like this.
The feature discussion of this film might not be up your alley, but I urge you to listen in. The jovial chemistry that has been built over the years makes it a fun listen, so too does our audible giddiness for being part of the same cinematic circus in mere days.
Here’s what’s in store in episode sixty-seven…

In the most anticipated podcast since…. since… since… Apple tried to make people think they invented podcasts.
Can I sue Apple for some sort of non-copyright infringement?
People sue Apple everyday, so I’m sure they won’t mind.
Thanks again for coming back on the show – this episode was a lot of fun, and I can;t remember the last time I laughed so much on-mic.
Spread the word of our handiwork, and I’ll see ya in a few days.
Okay I did not know that December counts as fall (I’m sorry but we don’t get that here, and I do know how bimbo I sounded).
Django Unchained is my most anticipated film of the year since forever!! I really hope it comes out here.
Too late, I’m already on record as saying you’re anticipating another film more…
FYI Bergman is way more popular internationally than he is in Sweden. We’ve always had a mixed relationship to him I think. By the broad masses I think many would consider him “difficult” not to say incomprehensible and dull. However at the same time the Swedes are fascinated – and a bit proud – that he’s been so successful abroad.
As of your other Swedish listener, Joel, he’s not one of Bergman’s biggest fan as far as I know of. Basically he refuses to talk about him if you want to discuss Swedish important movie makers. He’d rather try to talk you into trying out Bo Widerberg.
For me Bergman is a hit and miss. Some movies are not for me. But I rank Scenes From a Marriage and Fanny & Alexander way up on my top 100 list. If you want to venture into Bergman I suggest you start there. They’re both very accessible. Oh and Seventh Seal of course. It’s iconic!
Well good to know that my lack of Bergman knowledge hasn’t cost me as badly as I thought…and that’s fascinating to know that there’s such a complexed relationship between the man and his native audience!
That’s what I love most about doing this podcast – I learn something new every episode.
I thought that Premium Rush was a fun film, though it would’ve made a better videogame. Did you see the clip during the credits of JGL showing the real injury he received after crashing into a cab?
Also, I actually passed on the Seven Psychopaths test screening (not knowing what it was). I personally try to follow embargos when I go to test screenings, though I will usually post something AFTER its released.
I had to book it as soon as the film was over so I missed out on the easter egg – I hear it was a beauty of a war wound though!
To be fair, the locals (who will remain nameless) have honoured the embargo. I only know what they saw and that they loved it due to personal conversations.
Best podcast I have heard for ages, Andrew makes a great guest despite some of his questionable views, Near Dark is a classic, my all time favourite vampire movie.
Thanks for listening sir, I’ll have to give NEAR DARK a look sometime. If you liked what we did here, I hope you found time to listen to Wicked Little Town part 3 where Andrew and I actually sat down face-to-face here at TIFF.
PS: Feedback question for Ep. 68…What’s a cinematic happening you’d like to experience? Festival you want to attend, theatre you want to visit, screening you’d like to be a part of, etc.
