I’m baaa-aaaaack….
I present to you the second episode of The Matineecast. I want to thank everybody for their support and kind words after episode one. It was really encouraging going into episode two, and gave me a lot to build on. Here you have it, the Derek Jeter episode.
(pssst…Jeter wears #2)
This episode has been archived, but it can be made available on request.
if you’d like to listen to it, please email ryanatthematineedotca
Here’s what’s in store in episode two…
Runtime
43 minutes
Up for Discussion
1. My brief introduction
2. Q & A with this episode’s guest, Miss Amanda Lee
3. News – Spielberg changes his mind, a Twi-hard is sent to the hooscow, and a Toronto landmark closes.
4. Review and reaction of UP IN THE AIR
5. Our top five movies featuring TV stars.
I’m having a lot of fun recording these, hopefully you’re having fun listening to them.
Enjoy!
Help! Really enjoying the “Matineecast” but it keeps cutting out half way through.
@ Fandango… Is the embedded clip cutting out, or did you grab it through iTunes?
awesome cast, lots of fun to listen too, can really tell you two go back! Was fun to listen to your top 5. Personally I would have had to sneak in Alan Alda for The Aviator or Crimes and Misdemeanors (huge MASH fan so it would be necessary).
And of course I would argue no TV start top 5 list is complete without: CLINT EASTWOOD. He did a little show called Rawhide which made him famous, and maybe a movie you've heard of called The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly 😛
It’s the embedded one, I can try iTunes when I get home later.
@ Univarn… Thanks for listening! i actually never watched Rawhide, so I totally forgot about Clint. matter of fact, thinking back I pretty much forgot every TV from before I was born – so no Ron Howard either for that matter.
Good choices both though. I know Missus Hatter would parlay your Alan Alda choice into BETSY'S WEDDING, it's one of her faves.
@ Fandango… Sorry to hear it ain't working for you. If the player in the body of my blog ain't working, give the miniplayer in my sidebar a shot – it seemed to work for univarn.
The main one wasn’t working, the mini one was the one that cut out but the main one is back up so I have now heard the second half. Got there in the end!
I have to say Univarn nailed it with Clint so there isn’t much more to say. But I have a couple of ideas.
Ron Howard – American Graffiti – The former child star then went back to TV (Happy Days) after American Graffiti before moving into the directors chair.
Clive Owen – Closer – First came to fame on British TV in Chancer (not sure if it made it to Canada)
Melissa George – Small but significant part in Mulholland Dr. and in a great film from this year Triangle. She started on Australian soap Home and Away and did two or three seasons of Alias.
On the subject of Alias, it is one of many TV shows that Bradley Cooper did. With The Hangover and The A Team coming up he is looking like a breakout star this year.
Finally got to listen to all of the first and am just into this one. Yes, digging the Matineecast very much thus far. I'm 1 of 6!!!
Only complaint: either your mic isn't a very good one and/or you just need to turn up the master volume. It's a little quiet.
I have to say, though, I'm a bit disappointed that you recycled the same song title for the intro. 😉 (Though I can't remember, is that even the name of a song or just the album title?)
@ Fandango… Thanks for your determination, I'm kinda honoured!
Good choices all – and colour me uninformed, since I didn't know that Clive Owen started on TV! Dangergirl and I were just talking and she suggested John Ritter.
@ Fletch… Thanks for the note, I'll tweak the volume on the mic for episode 3. I know the intro is an album, not sure if there was a title track to go with it.
I kinda like using it as my opening everytime…cuz I never know where people are listening from, so it's kina appropos.
…Still need a song/album to use as the title for my Top Five feature. Suggestions?
Hmmm…I will definitely ponder some names for the Top 5 lists. Off the top of my head, what about "The Final Countdown?" ;P
Also, I have some sad news for Lady Hatter. Although there is no confirmation that I know of, pretty sure that Zach Quinto is not interested in the ladies.
@ Fletch… Oh man…there's no way I could ever call it "The Final Countdown" without being able to play the song. But good call.
Lady Hatter is aware – she usually finishes her swooning with "But I'm pretty sure he's gay".
Re: TV to Movies … If you can have Helen Hunt then I'm taking Jim Carey. Granted he's not always batting 1000 but when he hits it, it is golden!
Some of my new ones would be Jason Segel … I love him … and Katherine Wiig, she just steals whatever scenen she's in. I was a big fan of Pushing Daisies so I'm looking forward to seeing more of Lee Pace as he's branching out and Katherine Heigl is my new Sandra Bullock – not necessarily the best actress around, but I've enjoyed what she's done so far.
I like hearing what you have to say, it was worth the effort. So you didn’t get Chancer in Canada! In that case here are a couple out of leftfield that you may or may not know: Kate Winslet started out in a BBC sitcom called Get Back. In turn her farther was played by Ray Winston who had many film and TV appearances in the late 70’s early 80’s (most notably Scum and Quadrophenia) but I first remember him when I was a kid playing Will Scarlet in the Robin Hood TV show Robin of Sherwood.
BTW Look out for my Robin Hood blog coming soon!
@ Fandango… Now I'm curious – what's your idea for a Robin Hood blog?
I finally found time to listen to your podcast (thanks to Christmas vacation). Its great fun! I agree with your ladies though…the ending was clear to me shortly after Clooney met his woman. I really enjoyed Up in the Air though.
What your podcast really cleared up for me is your rating system…I assumed it was out of 5! It makes so much more sense to me now 😉
Looking forward to the next one!
@ Ness… Thanks for listening, always nice to hear from one of the six! Episode three should be up the night of the 28th. So y'all come back now y'hear.
Yup, I subscribe to the movie critic rating of rating movies from 1 – 4 (or 1/2 a star if it's truly insulting).
I actually did a post about my rating system back vefore you started following – take a look.
Yeah, that was before I got hooked on your blog 😉
"Hooked on your blog"
I'll take Things Never Said Out Loud Before for $1000 Alex
Alright, it took me quite a bit of research until I got that reference…lol…
Am sure many will follow in my footsteps. You do seem to have a few followers though!
@ Vanessa… I'm not sure what amuses me more. The fact that I'm such a nerd that I just used a Jeopardy! reference, or the fact that you went and looked it up.
Yeah, I suppose this little blog is doing alright…and truthfully I'm still really humbled that people are interested in what I have to say.
I do mean it when I say it – Thanks for reading, and thanks for listening!
Hey, finally got around to listening to both of your podcast episodes now that I'm done with finals and papers and whatnot. They were both pretty great! You have a very nice rapport with your guests and I like the different features of interview, in-depth discussion, and top 5 lists. You sound like you've been doing it for years- what a pro.
If you're ever desperate for a new guest let me know and I will be happy to join you in the movie geekery.
@ Alex… Well look at that – Santa came and gave me two people offering to be podcast guests for Christmas (my friend Jillian offered in the comment section of my PRECIOUS review). I must have been a very good boy this year!
Glad you dug. If you're interested, episode three should be online Monday evening.
I'm finally caught up! lol
haha This was fun…you guys made me laugh.
I should join Amanda's support group, as I've also never seen The Godfather, though I believe it won the Oscar the year I was born.
I've also (to overcompensate in the support of Lady Hatter category) never seen Ben Hur, Lawrence of Arabia, Spartacus … you name it. The list goes on and on. I am, at least, one step above one of my ex-es, though, who refused to watch ANY movie or TV show if it was in BLACK & WHITE!!!
I'm at least…better than that. Sigh. lol
– Suzie
@ Suzie… It did indeed win Best Picture for your birth year, so get on it.
I think I might have to head a community outreach program for this support group…just start lending my copy out so everyone can get it over with and rip off the cinematic band aid.
You are indeed better than your ex, but still have some catchin' up to do. We'll talk about it more during your episode which will happen in the very near future.
