I mentioned a week or two ago that this would be a different TIFF for yours truly (more on that tomorrow). Were it not – were it the same sort of TIFF I’d become accustomed to over the last fifteen years, the new Christopher Guest movie would be my number one draft pick.
You see, back in 2006, Guest brought his fourth feature – FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION – to TIFF where it played as a Gala Presentation. The next day, an afternoon second showing of the film was followed by the cast coming out to do a Q&A with the audience – pretty much the entire cast. Ricky Gervais wasn’t present, but besides him, the entire Murderers Row of comedy that Guest employs in his films came out to hold court.
Jane Lynch demonstrated how she perfected the “Mary Hart Pose”, Catherine O’Hara showed off how she was able to pull off the facelift without make-up, and the whole cast was in a gracious and jovial mood.
So, it would stand to reason that MASCOTS could be more of the same…a happening…a reason to catch a screening of a film that will air on Netflix in just a few short weeks.
If you have a ticket, prepare for something awesome. If you don’t, then get a glimpse at the trailer and make sure you tune into Netflix when MASCOTS arrives…
