Back in 2005, my love for the film EVERYTHING IS ILLUMINATED pushed me towards the book the film was based on. After reading the novel by author Jonathan Safran-Foer, I looked around for more of his work. It was then that I discovered his follow-up novel Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close.

I remember enjoying it quite a great deal at the time, and think it might be time for me to re-read it. You see, after watching this trailer, I realize that for the life of me, I cannot remember what it is that darned key actually fits!

As I grab it from my bookshelf and thumb through the final ten pages, take a look at the trailer – the next offering from three time Oscar nominee Stephen Daldry.

  1. My first thought is “it’s hard to watch the trailer when all I see in this post is a bunch of HTML code”. Don’t think you embedded the video correctly dude! 😛

Having watched the trailer elsewhere however, I can say I have very low expectations for this film. It looks hideously mawkish and melodramatic, and I am not a fan of either Sandra Bullock or Tom Hanks (or at least, Tom Hanks this decade).

Plus I had to read the book in highschool and intensely disliked it. Putting 9/11 in your story does not make it profound.

  2. Thanks for the note about the trailer not working – Had to laugh that nobody mentioned that in the 12 hours the post was up. Guess the flick doesn’t have that much interest.

I’m actually re-reading the book right now, and I do remember caring for it a great deal. I zeroed in on the father/son relationship…less the 9/11-ness of it.

  3. I was blown away by the trailer, even though I tend to avoid movies about 9/11. Naturally, Tom Hanks gets top billing when he’s probably only in 20 minutes of the movie. I look forward to this film and am interested in tracking down the book.

  4. Given that I never read the book I was surprised to see Tom Hanks in a Oscar role again only to see him die in the trailer.
