Over the last two years, I’ve tried to make a concerted effort to up the amount of books I read. This practice has caused my reading habit to somewhat mirror my moviegoing habit in that I’m always looking for new material. I’m glancing at what others are reading, working off various lists, and always keeping an ear open for suggestions.
Last summer, in an effort to get new material, I happened by a table at my local library that I didn’t normally look at, and there I saw a copy of Seth Grahame Smith’s Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Hunter. Grahame Smith is the same chap who had already brought us Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. After skimming few pages, I checked it out and finished reading it in record time.
Once I was done reading it, I was happy to notice that a movie was being made out of it! It’s quite possible that when all is said and done, I might be in the “book was better” mindset, but at the moment I hope you’ll pardon me if my excitement boils over just bit…
Imagine how much more effective President Obama could be if he were allowed to wield an axe like that.
Right?
(Have you read the book)
The idea behind this thing is hideous to me, lazy and hackish in the very worst ways possible– and yet I think that that trailer looks kinda solid. I like that they’re playing this totally straight, because too often films of this sort try to go tongue-in-cheek and just end up winking at the audience the entire time, and the action looks good, but I really can’t get past the idea. Sets a bad precedent, if you ask me.
Read the book – it’s surprisingly solid.
