It’s a soggy morning here in Toronto, perhaps you heard. Thankfully I managed to avoid much of the weather-related mayhem that some of my friends and family had to deal with yesterday.
Looking towards coming attractions, I came across this trailer yesterday, and it gets to something I’ve said a few times on this site and other places around the web:
I tend to approach Sundance selections with guarded hope.
It begins with the fact that they usually drop around six months after the festival, and sometimes accompanied with a massive amount of buzz. My hesitation then goes to the fact that certain titles don’t play all that well outside of a festival atmosphere – any festival atmosphere. I call it the “Tadpole Effect”. Where Sundance films are concerned, it seems as though they stack the programme with quirky personal dramas, often involving a certain amount of coming-of-age.
Sometimes it’s WAITRESS; sometimes it’s MY IDIOT BROTHER
So looking at this clip, I find myself sceptical…but I hope I’m wrong…
