Saturday night I changed up my movie-going routine a little bit, and decided to go see a screening at one of Toronto’s second-run theatres. I used to watch movies at theatres like The Kingsway, The Paradise, and The Music Hall all the time…but these days I usually find myself succumbing to stadium-seat comfort.
But after almost a year of living in the neighbourhood, I figured it was about time I went to see a movie at The Regent. Like I say, it’s been a while since I went to a “B” theatre, and I was not expecting the place to be so nice. Cozy but not teeny, and staffed by very pleasant people, the place is clean, comfy, and features a screen & sound system that feel like they were just put in yesterday! I do wish admission was a little lower ($10 gets you in), but the cost still beats all of the first-run theatres in the city.
Of course, just to put a cherry on the whole experience, watching Javier, Scarlett, and Penelope cavort around Spain for two hours did wonders to help me forget about the snowy, blustery night outside! It all just added up to make for one of those nights that makes me remember why I go out to see a movie.

Hey Ryan, I didn’t know you lived in my neighbourhood! I’m at Eglinton and Dunfield, we should get a beer at the Granite sometime.
Wow James – small world! I'm on Roehampton & Redpath, I could probably walk to your place in five minutes!!
I'll definitely keep you in mind when I'm going to see something in the hood.
