With every passing day, I get deeper and deeper into “TIFF Mode”. Hopefully y’all come along for the ride, since I know it’s tough to engage in reading/discussing films you might not see for weeks or even months.
As I pulled together a long-list of films I want to keep in mind when the schedule gets handed down tomorrow, I found myself listening to what had other people’s attention, going on my own interests, and trying to keep an eye out for artists whose recent work I’d enjoyed.
Enter Asghar Farhadi.
Fahadi’s last film – A SEPARATION – knocked the stuffing out of me when I watched it in the early months of 2012. I was smitten with its subtlety, so-much-so that I wondered why I didn’t catch it at TIFF like so many of my friends did.
Well, you can file this under “Fool me once…” since his follow-up film, LE PASSE (or THE PAST), is playing this year’s festival…thus giving me a chance to possibly atone.
What do we think folks? Can lightning strike twice?
This is a film I really want to see since I heard about it late last year as it’s in my current queue of 2013 films to see.
If all goes to plan, it should be what opens my TIFF 2013 slate. Fingers crossed.
