Killer Queen

It’s rare that movie marketing amuses me, let alone amuses me enough to merit mention in this trifle of a soapbox. However, the commute home last night gave me a smile and I figured some of y’all might find it amusing.
My daily commute into work here in Toronto consists of a subway ride followed by a streetcar ride. I take the subway south to a major artery in the city called Queen Street, which is handy to get to since I get off the subway at Queen Station. If for whatever reason one finds Toronto’s subway system confusing, they make it easy as pie to know what station you’re in by writing the name in dark blue letters against a white wall.
Well, seems as though the fine folks at Disney saw an advertising opportunity there. Take a peek at the custom promo job they’ve done for ALICE IN WONDERLAND…

…Cool, eh?

  1. I've been to Toronto numerous times, and the Subway system is so much cleaner than any other! Well……..so is the entire city.

That is pretty exciting though. I'm making it a point to see this one opening weekend.

  2. @ Univarn… No kidding. The decal-on-the-wall advertising isn't anything new, but incorperating the station name is a pretty neat twist.

I didn't get a good shot of it, but Bonham-carter's photos are on the other side using thye same sort of device to say "Red QUEEN".

@ Mike… How long have you been here that you haven't been down to the subway yet?

@ Heather… Funny, lots of people here would tell you the subway isn't kept clean enough. The grass is greener I suppose.

(Psst… I'll be podcasting about Alice on opening weekend.)

@ Castor… We try to be hospitable. Good to know it's working.

  3. Hatter, I've only been here since September and I have a car so that makes my life either easier or hell depending on how the 401 is on any given day.

@Heather, you should have been here during the summer during the garbage strike. Brutal stuff.

  4. Sweet. The TTC could use some postive press these days. Especially after Giambrone's mini-tigergate scandal. Still on the fence about the movie though…Depp and Burton usually do solid work, but the trailers have not wowed me at all.

  5. omg that is awesome! I'll have to look for it next time I'm at Queen Station. Someone was thinking 🙂

    TTC rocks!

  6. @ Mike… I'm still trying to forget the garbage strike! Welcome to Town! Ever lookin' for info on anything T.O. related, feel free to give me a holler.

@ CS… Don't get me started on our transit system's woes. Pity there's no way to work this into any other station, but I'm happy to see something this original.

If you're still on the fence, wait for Episode 8 of my podcast – it'll go up right after the movie opens and we'll be discussing that film.

@ Shannon… It is pretty cool. Go get a photo or two of it before they take it all down.

  7. Garbage strike? Are you kidding me?

Perhaps I'm happy I haven't visited in a few years.

Of course I'm from Detroit and it often smells like garbage without any……..well……garbage. 😉

    Looking forward to the podcast!

  8. @ Heather… Yep, and the garbage workers aren't stupid – they only ever strike in the summer when it can get good and ripe. It's all better now, so come back up sometime.

    @ Sasha… Too cheap?? It's three bucks!

@ Anahita… As I mentioned, the opposite platform also had Red Queen posters, but I couldn't get a good shot of them. (Thanks for reading btw).
