Imagine if you will, young six year old Hatter. This young man had not yet fallen in love with the cinema, being taken by his guardians quite sparingly. He was however quite the little TV-watcher. After spending an hour or two outside, and dutifully eating every bit of his dinner…young Hatter would take to his favorite patch of living room floor and watch wide-eyed at the weekly exploits of The Dukes of Hazard, Knight Rider, and Magnum P.I.
However, every Tuesday night came his favorite show of all…
Yikes, man. Not feeling this one. Bring on The Expendables already!
Yeah I'm not buying into this one too much. If they can keep it light and cheesy then maybe it'll work, but if it takes itself too seriously… I smell disaster.
Actually, the trailer does not look anywhere near as bad as I had originally anticipated. I still have my expectations set really low for this flick. I just hope it is not as awful as The Mod Squad, Dukes of Hazzards, or Starsky and Hutch adaptations.
@ Aiden & Univarn… I'll see it so's that you guys don't have to 😉
@ CS… I wasn't looking forward to this movie at all, since – like those that you mentioned – movies based on TV shows tend to suck.
However, the trailer looks like they decided to have fun without pushing it towards silliness.
So here's hoping it comes off more like MAVERICK and less like STARSKY
I'm with Hatter on this one. If they kept it light but with a decent plot, then I think it should be good clean fun. This is certainly not one of those films that needs to break new ground. It just needs to encapsulate the action and fun of the show.
Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson aren't in it, so that's a good start.
You already know this, but the rules say that I must leave you a comment with this news: I granted you an award!
Sorry for this otherwise out-of-context comment.
As for this post, Cheshire Cat makes a solid point re Wilson and Stiller. Though Bradley Cooper is on the verge of overload, and his Hangover buddy Zach G. ain't far behind (I like both, but they each have been a lot in the recent past and/or the near future).
I'm not feeling much one way or another about The A. Looks like a solid cast has been together (pro), but that falling-tank-gun-shooting bit (con) has the potential to be the new version of "jump the shark." As in, "I really enjoyed Iron Man 2 until they Dropped the Tank" (or something like that). I'm rambling…
I used to watch all the same shows, plus one you missed: The Fall Guy. You mention you visited the cinema “sparingly” as a child. Up until the age of 18 when I went to university I had been to seen precisely 7 films at the cinema. I think I have been making up for lost time ever since. Going at least once a week (usually on a Sunday) for the past ten years. Last year was probably my most prolific year with 96 visits.
@ Cheshire… If Stiller was in it, I'd be boycotting.
@ Fletch… I'm such a whore for comments that I'll even roll with the out-of-context ones. Thanks for the K-A…it was a really swell pick-me-up 🙂
And I'm even more impressed that you might have indeed coined a new term! Whaddaya want to bet that come July, we're all using "Dropped the Tank"!!??
@ Number Six… My cinematic development was a bit stunted. I didn't start going to the movies "regularly" (ie once a month) until I was fifteen…and even then I was only seeing big-budget stuff. I didn't get the hang of true film appreciation until I was seventeen or eighteen.
And strangely, I never watched The Fall Guy. Go figure.
I also posted this one last week for pure nostalgia sake… and to see Sharlto Copley's next movie after District 9 (though I hope he signs on for something far better).
It doesn't look like it's aiming for more than a typical blow-em-up popcorn flick to me, at least I hope they do. Though the ending with Face shooting from some tank is way over-the-top even for this kind of movie. But I guess even thespian like Liam Neeson wants to have fun every once in a while, looks like the entire cast is having a blast here.
@ RTM… As long as everyone is having fun, the six year old inside of me will find it to be money well spent.
