This movie will:
A – Fail because Tom Cruise’s public image has taken another hit right as we were all ready to move on.
B – Fail because it feels an awful lot like DRIVE which was done so very recently.
or
C – Prove me completely wrong and actually make some bank because it’s badass.
C-ish for me. I think I’ll like it, but I can’t say for sure if it will bank much come box office time.
It might come down to what else is out when it hits screens.
I’m actually rather curious to find out!
I’m going with C as well, I don’t think that many people have sympathy for a woman who married to make herself a star.
I always like to judge people on their merits as opposed to their personal lives, but I’m in the minority with that sort of thinking. It’ll be interesting to see how the next few months go.
It will. Though the press seemed relatively forgiving for Travolta during Savages’ opening, although the circumstances are different.
Probably a mixture of A and B. Or, new option “D”: it will tank because of its lousy title.
No kidding – If they wanted to name it after the character, they could have at least come up with a better character name!
I assume A and B…. and I haven’t even seen the trailer. 😀
Are you specifically ducking it to be surprised? (Oh – and welcome to The Matinee!)
I’ve read a few Jack Reacher novels and when I heard Tom Cruise as the title character I knew I would be avoiding this. The trailer just proved my suspicion, seems like a weak plot based on a hollywood star who is nothing like what the books describes Jack as.
Welcome to The Matinee Omar, and thanks for subscribing!
I didn’t even know that the Reacher character was based on novels. Now that I do, I think I might very well skip the film and read the books instead.
Thanks. You’d enjoy the books if you like the sort of stories where veteran war heroes are thrown into modern landscapes and are forced to use their unique skillset to adapt and solve mysteries.
Definitely sounds like my sort of thing, and my ‘to-read’ stack is running low. I’ll grab one of them next time I’m at the shop.
