I’m sure this one seems like phoning it in. There’s two factors at play here.
First is the fact that we’re in this weird Never Never Land for trailers where the new ones of interest just ain’t dropping. Tempting as it is to post the trailer for UNIVERSAL SOLDIER: DAY OF RECKONING, that just isn’t my bag.
The second factor is last night I was just too distracted by CNN to write anything of real substance for you here today. No matter whether you lean left or lean right, you have to admit that watching America’s election unfold last night was pretty damned exciting.
To my American friends, I wish you luck. You are once again a nation divided and the next four years are going to require a lot of hard work. As your neighbour, I wish you a lot of luck, a lot of patience, and the grace to listen to one-another.
In the meantime, I’ve heard good things about this film, which actually had a showing here in town last weekend. Here’s hoping Hopkins can do Hitch proud!
Sorry to be cynical, and I am not been disparaging to the American system, ours is about the same. When you break it all down, roughly speaking in an average election 30% of the electorate votes one way, 30% the other way and 40% don’t vote. Then there is another sizable chuck of the population who are note registered to vote. The result, the leader of the nation is chosen and supported by a quarter of the population. There are more people who can’t be bothered to get off their ass and vote than who support or appose him.
Well, you’re right, but that’s everywhere (here in Canada too).
People have no problem picking up their iPad to vote for the winner of X-factor, but have to have their arm-twisted to make their voice heard in matters of their city, province/state, or country.
To those that don’t want to cast a vote, I can’t help them. To those Americans who *did* yesterday, I can hope they continue to make the process work for them.
Given the numbers from yesterday, I’d say there was quite a large turnout.
Anyway, recent word is that Hopkins is a little too hammy for some, I’m keeping my fingers crossed that’s just the pendulum bouncing against the good tides from Toronto.
I suppose the pie-in-the sky wish is that one day voter turnout reaches 85% or higher. One can always dream.
I’m not expecting true greatness from this film, but I will be interested to see how they encapsulate the part of Hitch’s story they choose to tell.
Keeping my debates to movies instead of politics these days 🙂 I have a free screening of Hitchcock next week, so I’m looking forward to seeing what the buzz is about.
And lively debates they are on your site too!
Be sure to wave your arms when your HITCHCOCK piece goes up – lots of us out here are eager to read your thoughts!
I actually did watch Hitchcock at the weekend screening. I will just say that Helen Mirren comes off the best as Alma. But that’s expected though.
Hopkins plays Hitchcock like the one you see on his TV show, very drool humor. As for the movie, I will let you watch it before commenting further.
Did you enjoy it though? – that’s the question.
I know very little about this except that as the king of suspense I’m eager to see what they do.
I’m with you on that!
