Ryan McNeilWhen Marvel announced “Phase Two”, everybody saw this film as the toughest sell. You have a talking tree and a gun-toting raccoon…what’s tough about that, right? The whole package might look a little bit “Green Lantern-esque”, but it also looks like it might hit the right notes.
Whadda we think gang? Will we get to Avengers 2 with a bang?…or is Marvel starring at its first certified bomb?
I kind of love it. Reasons: 1) Chris Pratt who is hilarious and now also hot; 2) the Indiana Jones-esque opening; 3) how cool the female characters look; 4) the fact that this film is embracing the non-serious; 5) the song and most definitely 6) the “What a bunch of A-holes” line which was adlib.
I really want this to be awesome. But I’m going to lower my expectations just in case… after a few hundred more rewatches of the trailer, duh.
One of my gripes about Thor 2 was that it failed to have much fun (Loki scenes aside), so if Gunn and Co. are about to up the “fun factor” with GOTG, then I’ll take it.
And dammit – I’d just got that song out of my head!
Looks great. I love both of James Gunn’s previous films (Slither and Super) and this one looks to have his wonderful sense of humor all over it. I’m sold.
Whether or not it’s a hit is still very much in the air, though. I hope it does well.
Never seen Slither – guess I have homework to do! – but I was a big fan of Super after catching it at TIFF 2010. The person holding the keys to the car has been a mixed bag with Marvel thus far…hopefully Gunn has what it takes to steer us through a fun ride.
Gotta be honest, Marvel could actually go 3 for 3 with me. This looks like all kinds of fun!
Doesn’t it? Maybe that’s what will work in its favour; the fact that they realize how much of a leap it is for fans to go “off-world” like this, and that they can’t take things too seriously when they do.
It’s like they’ve learned lessons from Thor!
