Before my screening of THE GREAT GATSBY last week, I got my first look at the trailer for a film I’ve been anticipating for a long time.
Considering how dearly I loved CHILDREN OF MEN, it seems like a crying shame that we had to wait seven whole years for director Alfonso Cuarón to return with a follow-up project. That said, this movie just might be worth the wait…especially if many of the details we’ve heard about it – long takes, real-time – turn out to be true.
The audience I saw GATSBY with sorta snickered at this clip, but what say you folks?
It’s AHMAZING! Why would they snicker? I got goosebumps when I read the synopsis and I was totally gobsmacked when I saw the trailer on a friggin’ tablet screen. I might have cried if it was on a movie theatre screen. I’m so in, it’s crazy. Also, they should not release any more trailers for this.
I have no idea why they snickered. Then again, I didn’t seem to be surrounded by the most sophisticated crowd.
(A *lot* of talking going on during Gatsby!)
I’m guessing they snickered ’cause floating around in space for eternity like a bubble with no control over your body almost seems cartoon-like for most people.
Cool trailer though, looking forward to seeing what Cuarón can get from Clooney.
Maybe – or maybe they just aren’t a sci-fi going crowd, which makes me think the box office take for this one will be on the low end.
I, however, am all over it!
Honestly, I’m a little worried. I have the utmost faith in Cuaron, but this looks to pile in the CGI where Children of Men was super down to earth. Of course, some CGI was necessary for space, and Cuaron can do CGI in a cool way (Harry Potter 3) but still. It looks very blockbustery.
I’m hoping that the long takes thing is the case and that the super fast cuts of the trailer are not indicative of the actual movie. Doesn’t really matter though. Still seeing this on opening weekend.
From what I understand the effects are far more static than this trailer might suggest. Think more MOON and less LOCKOUT.
In Cuarón we trust
I LOVE CHILDREN OF MEN and Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban is perhaps my fave HP movie, so the main draw for me to see this is definitely Cuarón. The pairing of Clooney and Bullock is a bit odd but we’ll see I guess.
I think the only thing odd about the pairing is that Bullock seldom does films that are as weighty as this seems (or at least, she seldom does them well).
And now that I think of it, I am *way* overdue for a CHILDREN OF MEN rewatch…
