Ladies and (especially) gentlemen – prepare to be amazed.
This weekend SEX AND THE CITY gets its victory lap at a cineplex near you. Now before I go any further, I should state that I’m not a fan of the show, and never have been. I hate to be unoriginal, but there’s no other way to put it – it’s not the show I hate, it’s the fans.
Quick note to every group of four thirty-somethings who fancy themselves as a likeness of Charlotte, Miranda, Carrie and Samantha – no, your life is nothing like what you see on this show. (And in fair play, to every group of five twenty-something guys out there – no, your life is nothing like Entourage).
However, Manolo-lusting Cosmo-slurping wannabe’s aside, I’ll admit that while I’m not a fan of the show, I do have lots of respect for its creativity, its writing, and its cultural impact. TV has come a long way in the last ten years, and shows like SATC had a lot to do with that.
So as I mentioned at the top, prepare to be amazed. Come Monday morning, prepare to be floored by the ludicrous amount of money SEX IN THE CITY brings in this weekend. Many shows for tonight and tomorrow were sold out as of Monday…that’s STAR WARS-type behaviour people!
My guess? $75M without breaking a sweat, and a $100M weekend wouldn’t shock me either.
