After that first box-office miss I suffered trying to get a ticket to PERSEPOLIS, I’ve actually been doing very well with picking up tickets as I go. Here’s a small secret – the Best Bets list isn’t nearly as complete as you’d think.
In the past it was academic – if a movie showed up on that list one night, it’d have some seats available the next day. This year, there are dozens of titles that are being left off that list that have same-day seats available. Matter of fact, I haven’t had a fruitless trip to the box office since that first one!
Speaking of which, I need to tip my hat to the swell bunch of linemates that have been collecting at The Manulife Centre so far. They’ve all been very friendly, very chatty (no small feat at 6am!), and have made those early mornings a lot less painful. Ditto the volunteers working that box-office at such an ungodly hour.
This afternoon I went to see RELIGULOUS: A CONVERSATION WITH BILL MAHER and LARRY CHARLES. It wasn’t exactly a screening per-se, but an amazing experience from the Mavericks program. They screened a ten-minute clip reel from Maher’s upcoming doc where he examines organized religion, after which he and the director Larry Charles sat down for a very funny and very informative interview. Bill and Larry spoke intelligently, and had the crowd in stitches throughout. One of my friends got a short video clip, and if I can get my hands on it – I’ll post a bit. Sidebar: Wow! After the digital camera clampdown that was TIFF 2006, they are really letting audiences have free reign this year!
That’s it for now. Time for this Hatter to get a nap in before tonight’s screening of HERE IS WHAT IS.
