I know, I know, this isn’t exactly breaking news. However with all the goings on around this space over the last month or so, I haven’t posted a new trailer in six weeks! As you well know, in that time some pretty badass-looking previews were unleashed.
As I’ve said before, it’s difficult – and sometimes counterproductive – to get a full read on a film by way of a trailer (or teaser trailer in this case). However, if Hollywood was ever determined to disprove me, the footage we’ve seen for THE DARK KNIGHT RISES, THE HOBBIT, and this film seem the most likely candidates.
Strange as it seems, this film could have an uphill climb on its hands. As my brother pointed out, what should we expect from a director revisiting a property 34 years after the fact. Further, what should we think of a franchise that is now 34 years old and in its fifth chapter? (A prequel at that!).
I remain curious and excited…but I’ve been wrong before.
While I agree that there seem to be a lot of ALIEN elements, I’ve read in a number of places that Scott says this takes place in an entirely separate universe to the ALIEN series. From Wikipedia: Originally conceived as a prequel to Scott’s 1979 science fiction horror film Alien, script rewrites developed the film into a separate story unconnected to the films of the Alien franchise. According to Scott, though the film shares “strands of Alien’s DNA, so to speak”, Prometheus will explore its own mythology and universe and is not directly linked to Alien.
Then again, Fassbender says it’s completely linked to Alien.
Looks good, regardless.
I’d been hearing that all along as well…that it wasn’t a straight prequel so much as it was “set in the same universe”. But then those comments about how it was in fact a prequel, especially in its final act started coming through.
Looking at this trailer and seeing the way Scott even unveils the title in the same way (one solid line at a time), it’s hard not to see it as a prequel. Which still leaves me excited.
I’m not particularly worried about its prequel status. I’m just glad it’s not Alien Vs. Predator again.
Oh man, I’d almost forgotten about AVP. Thanks for reminding me of that silliness…
I am pretty excited for this one. I was nervous about the old ‘Scott’s Law’ in that if I like the trailer the film will be bad. But I am hoping this one is the exception that proves the law!!
Thanks for sharing matey
“Scott’s Law”…can’t say I’d heard of that one!
I’ll be curious to see a longer trailer of this in the spring just to get a better feel for it, but I remain hopeful for the project.
