Ordinarily on Wednesdays, I post a trailer of a film that’s at least a month or two out. Today, however, I have something a little different for you.
Edward Burns – the director famous for THE BROTHERS MCMULLEN and SHE’S THE ONE – has gone back to his roots. After a long stretch writing and directing all manner of indie films, Burns is offering up another story of a working-class Irish-American family in New York. Oh, and this time the family dysfunction is set over Christmas.
I caught a showing of the film at TIFF, and really dug the way the film is a family story that happens to take place over Christmas, rather than a ham-handed way of trying to make a film that adds to the canon of the holiday season. I guess that’s an ineloquent way of saying I quite liked it.
So what’s different about this particular trailer is the fact that if you find it to your liking, you can watch it right now, as Burns and his team have elected to release it via VOD and iTunes.
So if you want to see something a little festive – but not the hokey sort of festive that will be all over your TV starting this weekend, check out THE FITZGERALD FAMILY CHRISTMAS.
