Good morning campers! Who’s ready for another wonderful and fun-filled day here at Camp Hatter?
Yeah, it probably is too early to be that chipper; I’m probably just overcompensating. You see folks, that first week back at the grind after TIFF was a tough one…and this past week wasn’t a whole lot easier. During times like these, one can either hide under the blankets and wait for a storm to pass…or dig deep and stand one’s ground.
I’m opting for the latter, which requires a bit more cheeriness than usual, so permit me my bounciness a little longer, won’t you?
Before I get to this week’s links, permit me a quick apology. For the last two weeks, I’ve been doing a lot more writing than reading. Part of it comes down to some ongoing technical difficulties on my site. Part of it comes down to a slightly lesser amount of downtime recently. No matter the reason, I’ve really started to feel out of the loop…and in a way, I think that’s reflected in my own writing on the site.
Hopefully though, I can get things back on-track soon. So if you’ve been wondering why I don’t comment more often (or why I don’t respond to comments here), I apologize. Things should be better soon.
In the meantime, let’s get this weekend off to a good start, shall we?

For your listening and reading fulfilment, I give you…

When Andrew and Douglas Robinson left TIFF to return to Jamaica, I found myself waiting with baited breath to hear their reunification on-air with their co-host Damion Whyte. Sure enough, the beginning of this episode was everything I wanted it to be.
Not long after I started writing on this space (and its predecessor), Alex Withrow opened up And So it Begins. This week, in honour of his site’s sixth anniversary, Alex posted his first short film – one he directed five years back. Congrats Alex – both on a great site and a great film!
Time to talk TV for a moment. Like many of you I’ll be seated comfortably on the couch this Sunday, watching the end of The Ballad of Heisenberg. It’s going to be strange living in a world that doesn’t have new episodes of Breaking Bad, but I’m sure something new will come along. To bid adieu, Catherine has pulled together a post of ten things she’ll miss about Vince Gilligan’s amazing program.
I didn’t think it would be possible just a few months ago, but I actually find myself really looking forward to seeing RUSH this evening. Sam McCosh has already seen it (of course she has – she lives in the future!), and has stoked my excitement that much more!
Back in August, when I caught up with MUSEUM HOURS, I found myself wondering what Alex Kittle would think of it. This week I got my answer…and how.
Vance took his young’n to see his first film this week! Check out how the experiment shook down.
EVery year, there’s an indie that I mean to see that just continually eludes me. This year I think it’s going to be THE KINGS OF SUMMER. Mettel Ray’s warm reaction to the film just makes feel that much more out of the loop.

As for a Tweet of the Week, seeing this one go up was a truly welcome sight…
FINALLY! Recording Cinecast #322 tonight. Talking #Prisoners, #TIFF recap and a giant of a Watch List! Stay tuned!

Enjoy!
Sundays will feel a lot emptier without Breaking Bad, even moreso when Mad Men departs.
Next week is a “bye week” in between Breaking Bad ending and Walking Dead beginning…I actually don’t know what to do with myself.
Not sure if you’ve seen it, but Hell on Wheels is worth a watch. It’s not as good as Deadwood, but it more than holds its own.
Definitely give The Kings of Summer a go!
Thanks for a link!
Anytime! I’m hoping I make the cut on one of your link posts soon 🙂
