First thing’s first – I need help from Matineecast listeners.
Episode 99 of the show, which will hit the feed in ten days has been a hard one to figure out. Originally, it was going to cover THE WOLF OF WALL STREET. However, Scorsese couldn’t finish it in time, and now that film is dropping on Christmas Day. With that plan scuttled, our attention turned to Alexander Payne’s NEBRASKA. However, just yesterday, that film was pushed back. Instead of hitting Toronto theatres a week from today, it was kicked to November 22nd.
So basically, on the weekend of November 15th, Hollywood is taking a mental health day.
For a moment or two, I thought about reaching back a bit and discussing something like THOR or 12 YEARS A SLAVE, but both my guest and I figured that wouldn’t be the greatest idea.
So we’re going to play small ball – we’ve circled a few indie releases currently in theatres and on blu-ray, and we’ll review one of them.
Which one we discuss is up to you though!
In the sidebar, you’ll notice a poll. Please take a moment and vote on which film you’d most like us to discuss on Matineecast 99. The poll will be open until midnight EST on Monday.
Thanks for your help, gang.

For your listening and reading fulfilment…

I’m really dazzled with how disinterested I was with ENDER’S GAME. Perhaps nobody sums it up better than Kurt Halfyard. if you know Kurt, you know his rants are best taken orally, so check out this week’s Row Three Cinecast. (Kurt starts railing at the 53-minute mark).
Any week where Stevee Taylor writes is a good week. This year, the former video store clerk eulogizes the video store model.
Over the last three or four years, I am hard pressed to think of a better ‘first watch’ than ACE IN THE HOLE. This week The Void caught up with it, and summarizes it with his usual Void-like insight.
The gang at Movie Mezzanine (myself included) took a moment this week and detailed how we all got started writing about film.
Considering my recent efforts to do more film reading, I’m always eager to see what books other people are reading on the topic. This week, Norma wrote a few words on one I’ve already read – and highly recommend – “Down and Dirty Pictures”
A documentary that I’ve been meaning to catch up with for a while now is LINSANITY about the unexpected rise to fame of Houston Rocket point guard Jeremy Lin. Courtney Small caught up with it at The Reel Asian Film Festival this week, and posted his review.

Finally, we have the Tweet of The Week, which this time out comes from Jake Cole. Jake – we’ve all been there, buddy…

Thanks for the link love.
Anytime man – I think I’m about due for a rewatch of that one. Might even have to make it a Freeze Frame post in the near future.
Thanking you very much for the linkage (I was lucky to write something this week, with all the graduation stuff making this a hectic and sleepless few days). So strange how Wolf was supposed to drop this week, feels like I’ve been obsessed with this film forever…ah, what’s another month and a half?
Ah, obsession – such a youthful emotion. Glad I could link to your post. Hopefully we get a few more in the coming months, busy as I know you’ll be.
Thanks for the link, much appreciated.
Anytime Norma – keep the good stuff coming!
My apologies for the tardiness but thank you for the shout out! As always, it is greatly appreciated.
Are you going to the Payne talk/Nebraska screening on Monday? If so, I will see you there.
