I was reminded of two things last night.
I went to a movie with two of my favorite local movie lovers. When it was over, we went for dinner and discussed what we’d just watched at great length. This served as the first reminder – that as someone once told me, the idea of “dinner and a movie” is ass-backwards. People should be doing “a movie and dinner” so they can hash out what they’ve just watched.
The other thing it reminded me of is why I’ve become such great friends with many of the local brood. In discussing the film, one of us loved it, one hated it, and one was somewhere in the middle. The discussion was loud, lively, and covered every last detail of the movie that could be jammed into sixty minutes. Despite our adamant disagreements, and how we rotated two of us taking shots on the outmanned third, we had a blast, walked away smiling, and called it a great night.
When was the last time you had that happen – and about anything besides film? Disagree passionately for an hour solid and say “that was fun, let’s do it again next week”?
For your listening, reading, and viewing fulfillment, I give you…
Listened to the latest TUMP? If you have, you’ll know why I want #damionanddouglasdoTIFF2013 to start trending.
I’ve never really highlighted much in the way of video content, but I’ve grown quite fond of Leah’s short video pieces about the films she see. Check out her entry on the latest Twilight offering.
As Stevee approaches her 1000th post, she dedicated a post to her favorite handfuls of cinematic skittles.
Elsewhere in listy goodness, Nikhat has compiled a post dedicated to her favorite character introductions.
I’ve mentioned a few times that I plan to catch more Bergman in 2013. The Defiant One has reminded me by watching WILD STRAWBERRIES recently and offering up her review.
Over at Cinema Romantico, Nick (who’s on Twitter dudes!!!) finds himself wondering about Jesse & Celine in BEFORE SUNRISE/BEFORE SUNSET. Just in time for next year’s conclusion of the trilogy!
It’s been an interesting week for discussion about people’s attention spans. The Kid has a thought or two on the topic, and not to be outsmarted – he keeps his point brief.
Then there’s the tweet of The Week. You know that feeling you get when it feels like people you know are having fun without you? Well you haqve to put that feeling in check when it’s two people as awesome as this:

Enjoy!
Thanks for the link… and I too agree with said campaign… #TUMP4TIFF2013
I’d love it if you floated it past the gents on-air during a future TUMP. Something tells me the resulting reaction would make for an amusing listen.
Thank you for the link!
I try to have active discussions like that in my film studies class, but everyone is so “course-oriented”, it’s disgusting.
There’s your first problem – these arguments happen better of dinner, drinks or the like. In class everyone is trying to stay far too studious.
Many thanks for the link!
Love that introduction, too. It’s very true. It should be a movie and dinner…..except when a movie truly moves your soul. There is no WAY I could have gone to dinner after, say, “Black Swan.” I would have had maybe one bite of food and then just had to leave.
Amateur.
Aww it WAS super fun hanging out with Joanna! At one point we definitely talked about how you were one of our favorite internet people haha, so you were there in spirit!
What Alex said!! 🙂
You complete me.
Both of you.
Many thanks for the link! “Cinematic skittles”…I’m afraid I didn’t think of that myself!
Wait a second – do y’all have Skittles in New Zealand?
Haha, yes.
