Wanna know what I learned last night?

GROUNDHOG DAY is not an 80’s film. Groups running trivia contests aren’t always flawless. And people participating in trivia contests can get vicious.

With that in mind, I hope all of my American readers have a happy and safe long weekend, and I hope you’ll pardon me if I get right to the links without any further ado.

For your listening and reading fulfillment, I give you…

This week The Franklies went to movies separately. Trouble in paradise? No – just twice as much content to talk about  on Episode 85.

One of my most anticipated films of the summer is MOONRISE KINGDOM, and over the last few days reactions have starting trickling in. On Row Three, Kurt has the first of what I’d wager will be many posts about it.

At The Frame, Jandy has rekindled her ‘He Says, She Says’ series where she and her husband Jonathan put up a point/counterpoint post on a film one of them have chosen. I’m always fascinated by such conversational posts, and even have something similar planned for later this summer. This week they discussed a pop culture fossil: TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES.

I’m becoming increasingly fascinated with how our tastes change as we age. Case in point, GMan reconsiders his favorite directors four years after the fact and find that things are not as they once were.

Cannes closes up shop this weekend. Over the last several days, in honour of the world’s biggest film festival, The Void has been posting a marathon centered around Cannes films from years past.

Finally, in honour of the Time Magazine cover that many of us can’t get out of our heads, Candice looks at the nature of Motherhood and Religion in  CARRIE for a really strong article over at Reel Talk.

As for the Tweet of The Week, I do love me a great use of the english language, so it really Allison has it nailed:

  1. I was once in a trivia contest that was under the false impression that Sydney Pollack directed “Michael Clayton.” But I didn’t get indignant. I just gave them the wrong answer they wanted and got the point.

    1. Totally what I would have done. Know it’s wrong, mark it down anyway, and then argue later. If you put down something right and they say it’s wrong, have them look it up.

  2. Hey I like that photo you’ve got up there Ryan. My hubby took one just like it of my sunglasses when we’re in Rome 🙂

  3. Hey Ryan, thanks for the plug. That’s always really nice and helpful. Oh, and have you seen Trouble in Paradise? Great Lubitsch movie!
