In mapping out the next few podcast episodes (it’s a sickness really) I couldn’t help but notice something:

April is gonna suck.

One film that I’ve seen has some charm (DAMSELS IN DISTRESS), but its release looks to be wickedly limited. One upcoming doc looks badass (COMIC-CON EPISODE FOUR), but lord knows I won’t be hurting for docs by this time next week. Which leaves me with CABIN IN THE WOODS – which I am looking forward to. One movie. Thirty whole days, including a long weekend, and the best the studios can offer us is one measly film that feels worthwhile. What the hell?

Knowing that, I’d be prepared to call HUNGER GAMES an abject failure if it can’t crack $300M with precious little in it’s way until AVENGERS drops at the beginning of May.

Come on studios – the rule isn’t “attendance dips in April”, it’s “attendance dips in April when you release shitty movies”. Don’t believe me, look up MATRIX, THE.

For your listening and reading fulfillment, I give you…

The lovely ladies of Reel Insight have returned with another episodes – no Swedes in sight this time. They do however chatter about Bill Nighy. Place bets now on how long it will take for them to cover Martin Freeman and Andrew Lincoln…since they seem to be covering the cast of LOVE, ACTUALLY one by one.

As Sue and I were walking into GOON, I pointed at a poster for MY WEEK WITH MARILYN and suggested she check it out. Little did I know it would lead to something so heartfelt.

Corey wonders if a bad film gains currency with one great scene.

In case I haven’t mentioned it, I’m making a pitch for Stevee Taylor to get the Kiwicast up and running sometime soon. Tell your friends. In the meantime, take a look at her thoughts on ambition.

The Classic Chick Flick has a new home! Go check it out and if you didn’t already, give a read to her take on the swell Scorsese doc THE LAST WALTZ.

Over at Anomalous, Nick takes a long look at the difference between consuming movies and consuming television shows.

The Tweet of The Week meanwhile, comes from Candice at Reel Talk who watched MELANCHOLIA. Her reaction is about the same as mine:

  1. Thanks for the link!

As for the KiwiCast – well, it could be interesting. But I’ll hold off for a while, since this production will take any inch of a life that I have. But hey, it is not out of the question just yet!

    1. I think that’s how MELANCHOLIA made us *all* feel. For a brief moment I thought about buying it on blu-ray, until I realized I would never want to queue that up and watch it just for kicks.

    1. I’m killing off a two man penalty:

For starters, I wanted to discuss THE HUNGER GAMES which meant turning the episode around quickly anyway (rather than talking about it three weeks after the fact). This will come into play more as we get into the summer.

On top of that, my gracious guest has a very busy weekend and can’t sit down with me until Sunday morning. So it’ll be a Sunday spent doing the talk-cut-post mambo.

      Wish me luck!
