As I prepare to write and podcast about the new Superman film this weekend, I must admit that I haven’t been able to shut off the chatter. I have tried to jog my Twitter feed a little faster, or stay away from news on facebook…but the scuttlebutt has been so omnipresent.

The weird thing is that I’m hard-pressed to remember a film that has taken over the conversation with such ferocity recently, and in part it comes down to the division of those who have seen it and those who have not.

I won’t be getting into my feelings about the film here – which is not intended to tip my hand one way or the other. All I will say is that I’m looking forward to getting my thoughts about the film written down (and captured on-air) so that I can start digging into what this divisive tentpole release is sparking in others.

Double dose of podcasting on this round-up: The Chicks with Accents are back!

Oh, what the hell – triple dose of podcasting on this round-up: I defy you to find me a better episode of any podcast, than hearing Andrew, Douglas, and Damion discuss season three of Game of Thrones.

While I work away on my MAN OF STEEL review, take a look at what the gang at Go, See, Talk! are saying about it.

Vance has had been exposed to a lot of walking dead this week, leading him to write a meditative post on the entire nature and consciousness of zombies.

A film I’m becoming more and more curious about is Sofia Coppola’s THE BLING RING. I haven’t been a fan of much of So-Co’s work, but something about this strikes a chord (maybe I’ve been on Tumblr too long). Sam McCosh – who has been covering SFF like a champ – calls the film “vapid”. Not sure if that helps my curiosity or hurts it.

Lisa Thatcher – who is also covering SFF like a champ – is one of the first to get a glimpse at WORLD WAR Z. Perhaps there’s hope yet all ye doubters.

Going back a week or so, Kristen put up a swell write-up about one of the all-time greats: KING KONG. I’m always fascinated with KONG conversation, since to me it’s reached a stage where it isn’t so much a movie as it is a cinematic faery tale.

.

Then there’s the Tweet of The Week, which is not at all movie-related, but gives me a chance to nod towards an old friend of the site, and gives me a smile just thinking about it…

.

Enjoy!

  1. Thanks for the link Ryan. I’m still undecided on The Bling Ring to a certain extent. How much can something portray a culture before it is part of the same beast? I personally think it’s her weakest film. I’m excited to see STORIES WE TELL today, the final of the official competition films.

    1. I think I still have another week to go for THE BLING RING. Seems like the indie films this summer are all being scattered in the wind here in Toronto.

What did you make of STORIES WE TELL?

  2. Since you mentioned me on Twitter, I can only assume “turtle sex” made the Tweet o’ the Week. However, tis not showing up. Just says “There was a problem connecting to Twitter.” Not sure if it’s just for me or everyone, but thought you should know. And thanks! It’s the thought that counts, right?

    1. Yeah, I don’t know what the hell was going on with my Twitter plugin that it wouldn’t embed into the post, but it’s there now! And in case I haven’t mentioned it out loud, we miss you around these parts!

Here’s hoping the move goes smoothly.
