This week’s photo isn’t the most exciting, but I felt the need to share. I wanted to customize the new toy, and thought that little bit of Banksy near the keypad would be a nice touch (I’ve named him Darwin). He has a complimenting image on the outer shell, but I’ll save that primate for another time.
This weekend promises to go by in a blink, especially since it’ll involve some time spent at the office. However, unappetizing as working for the weekend might be, this weekend still has a lot of fun in store with a screening of CAFE DE FLORE on tap tonight, and going to see the stage version of American Idiot tomorrow afternoon. How I’m going to write a few posts and edit a podcast around all of that I do not know.
Most importantly though – if you are in the Toronto area and want to meet some great people and see something fun and different, check out the Shorts That Are Not Pants Series happening tonight at NFB. It’s hosted by James McNally from TO Screen Shots and promises to be a blast!
For your listening and reading fulfillment, I give you…
Andrew “GMan” Robinson posts a rare episode of The Unnamed Movie Podcast where Damion and Douglas are nowhere to be found. Instead he discusses THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO with fellow Caribbean blogger Chelan Smith. I need to give thank Andrew for some tweaks to The Matinee he pulled together in very short order. Apparently, it takes a village to run The Matinee.
A 2011 film I caught up with just before New Year’s was CERTIFIED COPY, and like a good Filmspotter it’s already a film i want to catch up with again. Andy Buckle just saw it for the first time himself and turns in a rather swell review.
A dear friend of The Matinee, Miss Sasha James, has launched her new website this week. She assures us it isn’t porn.
I don’t know when the MaMo boys find time to sleep. When they aren’t recording fly-by-night podcasts, or trying to read fifty books in a year, they’re recording videos for The Substream detailing highlights of the upcoming Lightbox schedule. Out of towners might wanna give the video a look as it gives you a sense of the vibe and aesthetic of the venue itself.
The Movie Snob takes a moment to discuss one of my favorite classic films, THE NIGHT OF THE HUNTER.
As much as I don’t understand the massive hoopla over DRIVE, I will readily admit that it contained one of the very best scenes of the year. Nick has put up a post at Anomalous Materials breaking it down and heralding its praises.
Finally, for the Tweet of the Week – something I hope to embed correctly this week – I’m yet to meet Brad face-to-face, but this mental image fills me with such sadness:

That’s a very nice Banksy piece to have on your PC.
Some great links!
Pretty cool ain’t it? He makes me smile as I type.
Thanks for the link… and you’re welcome. I notice it doesn’t show nicely in Firefox 11 BETA (but that’s a beta, should I bother?)
If that’s a beta, then no – we can come back to it and tweak that later. For now just focus on the grid-slide-excerpt thing. And thanks again!
Thank you so much for the link! I had a blast writing that post and I’m pleased people are responding to it.
The more I hear of this Cafe de Flore, the more intrigued and desperate I am to hopefully get a chance to see it in the near future. Can’t wait to hear your thoughts on it.
I vote you make it an ongoing series – I’m always intrigued to read peoples’ thoughts deconstructing a scene.
I’m really looking forward to CAFE DE FLORE, so you should see a post up on it this Sunday morning…but I don’t know how long it’ll take a Canadian film to make it to Netflix and the like. Hopefully it isn’t too long until you can catch up with it.
Thanks for the link kind sir. Certified Copy is certainly an interesting film. I have to see it again.
