Yesterday morning was deeply bittersweet for me. As my memorial for Roger Ebert was posted, I quietly held my breath. When news of Ebert’s death broke, I knew I was going to need a few hours to try to string together two coherent sentences. Even when those hours came and went, I sat down and felt like I wasn’t making any sense.
Gotta love trying to honour a writer with bad writing, right?
Then yesterday morning rolled around, the post went live, and I started getting such wonderful feedback. People told me that I summed up what they were feeling, and that Ebert would have been proud of what I wrote. Guess I made some sense after all.
Of course, as wonderful as it was to hear people respond in that way, it actually kept kicking me back into that sad headspace I found myself in when I first got the news. What I’m trying to say is that it’s been a strange two days…two days when I didn’t feel like writing all that much, knew that I should, but also fight to get anything right.
Guess that the sort of mixed-up feeling that comes with death.
I’m just about ready to move forward and get back to normal, but before I do, here are a few more words about Roger Ebert from some blogs and podcasts I admire.

Finally, for a Tweet of The Week, I turn to A.O. Scott who sums the man and his influence up thusly…

Cheers!
Scott summed that up quite nicely. He will very much be missed.
Amen brother!
