So that was fun huh? Y’all got sick of me saying the word “TIFF”…I got sleep deprived…we all lived on take-out for ten days straight (no? just me?). Jokes aside, I do want to close off all TIFF-related talk by offering a word of thanks. Reading all of the great feedback during the festival really makes the decision to write as I go worthwhile. So in case I haven’t said it before – or if I’ve said it with a sarcastic smirk, as I’m known to do – thanks for reading.
Now we can get back to something approaching normal around here, which of course begins with a weekly feature of lookin’ around the interwebs to see what everyone else has been up to. This week required an awful lot of looking, since I haven’t been doing all that much reading in recent weeks. And by the looks of things, I’ve been missing a lot!
So enough of me yammering on, I’ve done way too much of that lately. Here’s some great content to dig into.
For your listening and reading fulfillment, I give you…
Reel Insight has settled into their new bi-weekly rotation (you can almost hear how giddy they are to be back). They dust off their mics to talk Pierce Brosnan.
If you had it in your head that 2011 is all but over, Lesya is here to remind you that there is a lot of awesome yet to come.
One film I skipped at TIFF, but am looking forward to catching at the Lightbox later this fall is MELANCHOLIA. Joel has put together a pretty swell review and whet my appetite all the more.
Just in case you didn’t get enough film festival coverage (how could you?), check out Wide Screen World’s coverage of The Urbanworld Film Festival in NYC
A blog I began following just before TIFF, The Velvet Cafe had an afternoon of countering the latest and greatest cinema has to offer by soaking up some silent cinema.
I’m a sucker for posts about THE ICE STORM – I feel like I’ve linked to sixteen of them over the two years I’ve been doing link posts. Gman took a hack at it, so of course…I gotta link to it.
Finally, we have our tweet of the week…which, if it were a perfume, could be called “Eau de Defeatism”:

Enjoy!
Corey should take heart – Louis CK was pretty much sidelined from post-production editing, and he agreed with Roger Ebert that Pootie Tang should never have been released, since it was nowhere near the film he had envisioned. So one could argue that it’s not mandatory viewing.
My source for all of this is, of course, Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pootie_Tang#Production
Source Schmourse…You’re actually a closeted POOTIE TANG aficianado, aren’t you?
This is a thread that could take a vulgar turn any minute, so I’m just going to leave it here.
What, I wonder, did Louis CK envision Pootie Tang as?
I’m almost afraid to ask.
I can’t understand how you’ve found the time to browse the blogosphere considering your extraordinary reporting from TIFF.
Nevertheless: thank you for the link love! <3
I’m no magician Jessica – when TIFF was on I wasn’t able to read much of anything (and I commented on even less).
Much of the browsing and reading for this round-up happened during a quiet night in last night.
But you’re welcome for the link love – keep the great content coming!
It was fortuitous that Urbanworld happened around the same time as TIFF, because it gave me the opportunity to see how people like you and Courtney at Big Thoughts approach film festivals. In the end, though, I tended to go with my instincts – though I wish I could’ve seen more films like I planned.
Thanks for the link.
You’re welcome, and I hope down the road you can get in on NYFF or Tribecca as I’d love to hear about the vibe from those festivals too.
Giddy? Surely you jest! Just because we giggled like school girls over hot abs and horse-faced actresses (complete with a whinny)? Yeah, I guess giddy would be the world for it.
Thanks for the link love!
*word
It was really sweet a actually…like two college girls catching up the Monday after Spring Break.
If you want to save yourself the trouble of back commenting my posts, I’m willing to accept a broad based declaration of “you’re right about everything, Uni” instead. You know, something I could frame and post on my wall (right next to my favorite anonymous spam quote – “this blog reminds me of films”)
That is probably the funniest spam I’ve ever read. The only one I could even compare is one I got recently for my Contagion review.
“Don’t abandon your seniors in a home. Make them feel comfortable for the autumn of their lives. Matt Damon is excellent.”
Do you think they’re trying to imply a direct link between Matt Damon’s excellence and people leaving seniors in a retirement home? If so, that’s one hell of an accusation and feel we should take this directly to Damon himself for comment!
I’m thinking the opening question “Mr. Damon, why do you want to make people throw their parents in retirement homes?” should suffice.
I be sure to bring it up at the white guy convention.
Thanks. I was going to attend this year but it ended up conflicting with the save the ugly animals convention which I’m co-chair, so I was forced to bump it.
You guys crack me up.
You’re too good. I can’t top that.
It’s nice to know that I can work my way into the links by reviewing THE ICE STORM. I guess I’ll review it each week now 😛
Thanks for the love Hatter.
I, for one, approve of this strategy, and will implement from here on out. Of course, I will pay royalties to Andrew, 10% of all ego boosts that come from linkage!
It works if you write about OUT OF SIGHT as well.
Anytime good sir – keep the good stuff coming.
I am so glad you started checking out The Velvet Cafe. Jessica is such a great blogger. So much personality comes through in her writing.
Not sure how I found her site in the first place, but am certainly glad I did!
