Prepare to hate me…

Tonight I’ll be seeing TINKER, TAILOR, SOLDIER, SPY.
It will be my third movie in four days.
It will be my third free movie in four days.

To say that I have hit a lucky streak would be putting it mildly. However, the unforeseen consequence of seeing so many films all one after the other, is that they are all now swimming around in my head. They are beginning to blend into one-another as I race to write about them before they become undistinguishable. I’ll take a stab at it tonight, so if the review I post tomorrow morning seems a bit “off”, feel free to post a comment saying that I should slow down the watching and speed up the writing.

But for now, I burn the mic over to my brothers and sisters of the blogosphere who are creating such wonderful content that I’m having trouble keeping up with it all!

For your listening and reading fulfillment, I give you…

After what feels like a dog’s age, The Row Three Cinecast returned this week with a capital “E” epic episode. Before the dust settles, they carve up MELANCHOLIA, THE DESCENDANTS, and THE MUPPETS.

Kevyn Knox from The Most Beautiful Fraud has put together the sort of personal cinematic habit post that keep me coming back for more. In honour of Woody Allen being named as The LAMB’s director of the month, Mr. Knox has chronicled a personal history with Mr. Allen through the years.

Release patterns still throw me for a loop and continually remind me how lucky I am to see what I get to see when I get to see it. Case in point, while MARTHA MARCY MAY MARLENE arrived in Toronto a month ago, Rachel just got her mitts on it this week. She liked it a lot though, so at the very least if y’all have to wait for the good fall selections, it can be worth the wait.

The Movie Snob wonders if director Cameron Crowe has hit a crossroads.

Jessica at The Velvet Cafe is the yin to my yang. That movie that still freaks me out? It gave her a laugh.

One film I missed this summer that I’m looking forward to finally catching up with on blu-ray is ANOTHER EARTH. Dear Film caught up with it and seems to have found it very meaty. Something tells me it’d make a stellar double feature with MELANCHOLIA (which should not be watched on one’s iPhone).
As for the tweet of the week, it was sparked by this tweet of my own last Saturday afternoon:

…Which led to the Tweet of The Week, which made my day:

Enjoy!

  1. Thanks for the plug! MMMM wasn’t quite what I was expecting, but still very good.

RE: Another Earth. I watched it yesterday and really liked it, but I saw no comparison to Melancholia to really say they’d work as a double feature. Review Monday.

    1. My double-feature thought is a bit of a guess, based only on the fact that I know both films talk about celestial events affecting life down here on earth.

In other words, I’m guessing – and it sounds like I guessed wrong.

  2. The yin to your yang? That’s lovely? Admittedly I thought it was uncomfortable to watch, particularly the hospital scenes. But when the devilish girl pushed out her blue tongue I couldn’t help giggling. It looked sort of cute. 🙂

    1. Thanks! I thought that was pretty clever myself. If you search out THE EXORCIST on my site, you’ll get my impressions of it from when I finally experienced it in October.

It still gives me the willies based on its soundtrack and the way it needles at my Catholic upbringing. Doesn’t hurt that the character’s name is pretty close to mine either.

  3. Seen Tinker Tailor, and I loved it. After you see it you should check out my review so we can share notes. I’m interested to know what you think of it.

And also, thanks for the link.

    1. Once I write about it, I shall definitely read your post and comment. I’ll have to sit on my actual post for a bit since it doesn’t hit theatres for another few weeks up here.

  4. That’s pretty awesome, getting a response from Cameron Crowe. I generally avoid using the @ for celebrities I talk about for fear that they’ll actually end up reading something I tweeted and go “well this person is clearly a moron.” Granted they may be perfectly correct but all the same I’d rather them not know about it 🙂

      1. If that doesn’t make a day I don’t know what does. I was ecstatic when I was mentioned by Mystery Science Theatre in a tweet regarding their live show.

    1. His show in 2004 was better, but he remains the greatest concert I’ve ever seen. We even managed to get our seats upgraded to a closer section for free! If he ever plays a show anywhere near your town, be sure to jump on it.
