I hope that all of my American readers are enjoying a safe and happy holiday weekend so far. My friends and I decided to get in on the action this year, by having our own little get-together in honour of American Thanksgiving. We watched the parade, some football, put up Christmas decorations, and in lieu of having me cook decided to order in roasted chicken. (Next year I’ll cook something).

Fun times were had – especially with so many of us still on a Muppet high (have you seen it yet?). We even decided to cap off the night by watching A Muppet Family Christmas – which I highly recommend, if you haven’t seen it before.

But before we followed the trends set by my Yankee brethren, there was a lot of running around his week. A bar night, a podcast, and four screenings before the week was out! Taking Thursday off to celebrate was a lot of fun, but if I was a smart man, I would have booked off Friday too. On to other things.

For your reading and listening fulfillment, I give you…

A podcast which I am wildly overdue in plugging on this site. My friend Tim hosts a show called The Mind Reels, and he’s been on a pretty awesome run getting guests from a cult TV show called Lost Girl. (It doesn’t hurt that he has my partner-in-crime Susie Q at his side). Give a listen to Episode Six.

A film I’m still very much looking forward to – despite middling reviews – is MY WEEK WITH MARILYN. Laura over at City Lights has seen it, and offers up this review.

The Kid in The Front Row has an interesting little witticism regarding the nature of gender dynamics in rom-com watchers.

Speaking of rom-com’s, Andy Buckle watched one of Woody Allen’s all-time best in the genre; the gloriously photographed MANHATTAN.

My theory that 3-D can look good when wielded properly was proven this week…and it would seem as though the fine ladies and gents at The Flickering Myth agree!

When I wrote a blog about my day-to-day life, I began each month by talking about what I was into in terms of books, music, TV, etc. Univarn has compiled a similar such post, but done it with much more visual panache than I used to.

Finally there’s the Tweet of The Week:

Enjoy!

  1. This weekend was a bit of a disappointment as the theatre at home didn’t have much of a selection outside of Twilight and J.Edgar.
