Thoughts from your host…
I thought to myself that I could watch the Grammys on Sunday night and write-up show notes for this episode after. I really didn’t think that would keep me up until almost midnight.
Next time someone complains about how long The Oscars are, I’m going for blood.
This episode takes my guest and I to Netflix. By and large, I have avoided Netflix as a source for podcast feature selections, but not because of any knock on the quality of the films. For the most part, the reason why I tend to avoid Netflix for my first experience with films I want to discuss is because of my personal dimmed engagement. In a cinema I am pinned in place, I am surrounded, I am bombarded, and I am overwhelmed.
With Netflix, I am in a safer space, there is a disconnect, the format leaves me elbow room, and sometimes the work doesn’t hit me quite as hard.
Is that why we don’t talk about today’s New Slang selection quite as long as usual? Maybe. Maybe Not.
We make up for it though with a longer-than-usual, and quite boisterous “Other Side” section on Two Sixteen. If you listen very carefully, you can hear my guest smiling when I bring up one of her all time faves.
For the second time in three episodes, the show goes to the old country for its guest, and for the second time in three episodes, it’s well worth the early alarm clock. So sharpen your critical pencils and get ready to add a few titles to your “My List”…a new podcast is afoot.
Thanks for tuning into episode two-hundred-sixteen.
