Thoughts from your host…
Funny story time:
Now and then, when I get a Kiwi or an Aussie on to the show, it requires a little bit of scheduling gymnastics. One of us is getting up very early, or staying up very late. Every time – and for the handful of times it happens, it’s well worth the effort.
This week’s episode was scheduled to record on Saturday morning. That was the plan…really, I mean it. It would have had your humble host waking up early after a late night out, but I was up for the challenge. (Related: I can function on five hours sleep. This plan would have given me six).
However, despite setting three alarms, the Saturday morning conversation didn’t happen. Why? Because yours truly wasn’t looking close enough at his phone while setting the alarms, and set everything to chime in the afternoon…instead of in the morning.
Oops.
The good news was my guest and I go way back, and despite her early concerns that I had partied too hard on a Friday night, she was extremely gracious and offered a mulligan on Sunday morning.
The bad news was that Saturday was an even later night than Friday – a busier day all-around, more drinking involved, and a much later bedtime than the previous night. What’s more, here in Canada we set our clocks back one hour on Sunday morning…but in Australia they didn’t! So what was planned as a 6am recording session on Saturday morning turned into a 5am recording session on Sunday morning. Those five hours I can operate on? I didn’t get ’em.
Oops.
The result is a tad more subdued than usual – but a great discussion with a great guest nonetheless.
Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to catch up on the sleep that I missed…
